Access hole behind rear license plate

Access hole behind rear license plate

Took off my rear license plate and noticed a 3/4 inch hole that appears to be stamped. I'm guessing it's there to access a screw under it. Is it supposed to have a plug or grommet in it?

What keeps water and moisture out? A license plate makes an inefficient moisture barrier.

There's a round hole on my coupe under the license plate that has a metallic sticker over it, looks factory to me. Don't know what's under it.

I unscrewed that screw, and my front bumper fell off ......... j/k
