2004 gone in flood advance on slk
Hello
just lost my 2004 in the flood in Pensacola and looking at SLK to replace my crossfire and need some advance I found a 98 2.3 supercharge auto 67,000 miles for $6000 and a 2005 3.2 V6 manual with 87,000 miles for $10,000. Love both just wondering which you guys think which in the long run would be better. which do you think has more available mods, which engine is better . Heard anything bad about either.
If a get the 98 I will have the throttle body and MAF to sell, plus never use mess grill and complete black switches and A/C controls
Thank for any help

The 98 is the pre-facelift R170. 2.3l Supercharged i4. Add a smaller pulley and some bigger intake tubes and you've got a faster car than the 3.2 V6. But the pre facelift car has the black plastic cladding on the bottom and looks awfully dated. Also the auto in 98 was a 4 speed without a slapstick.
I don't think they made a R170 for the 2005 model year. That should be a R171 which had a 3.0 V6 or a 3.5. Both are great motors, but very little you can do with them mod wise. Same problem with the 3.2L V6, just throw an intake, tune, and open the exhaust a bit and you're at the top. Suspension is much better in the R171 over the R170, and less top issues.
Sorry about your 2004
