If I hadn't gotten such a great deal on the Bridgestones I just put on the SRT (1/2 off list price) I would have gone with the Toyo Proxes 4 Plus. Great ratings and 560 tread rate w/ 50,000 mile warranty. My SRT came with Toyo Proxes 4 when i bought her and loved the ride quality. The 4 Plus are an upgrade to the Proxes 4. I stick with the 275 on back simply cause I've heard of some having problems getting the 285s mounted. Plus they match up very well with the 235s up front. Also the cost is very comparable to the Hankooks and Generals!

I guess that is why I didn't go with G-MAX when I was researching tires, no 285's even though it is a good tire.

I've used the Hankook V12's, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, the Michelin Pilot Sport II, the Michelin Pilot Super Sport, and the Continental DWS'

Worst tire I've ever had was the Hankooks. After 5 minutes of fast driving in the bends they began to melt and were like driving on ice. Got worse the hotter it got, and the rears were showing chords at 8k miles. The fronts were also removed at 8k miles, but I might've gotten another 3k miles.

The Continental's were only slightly better, but only because they took longer to heat up. Again, I got about 10k miles on the rear and 15 on the front.

The Michelins were all the best.

Starting with the A/S: If I had skipped the Dragon events I could get 15-20k miles out of the rears and 25 out of the fronts. Biggest negative was the price, but it was worth the extra cost. With the Dragon event I could ruin these tires in a weekend, but it would be a hell of a weekend

PS II: These were my least favorite Michelin tires. Loads of grip, but only lasted a few miles. Sadly they are not worth the price.

Pilot Super Sport: Best tires ever! Did you hear me? LOL I can go to a Dragon event. Drive my ***** off all weekend and still have tread left. Only complaint is they have so much grip that they make the car understeer. Mine also seem to wear on the outside of the tire more than the inside. I probably need a alignment though.

The recommended rim width for those tires is 10.5 to 11.5 inches, the stock wheels aren't even in the ball park. Aren't you a little concerned that you're stressing the sidewalls? I am aware that you aren't alone in this practice but I worry about our younger members, I'd like to keep 'em around.

How do the Pilot Super Sports handle in the rain?

Really well so long as you still have tread left, but lets be honest, that's like all tires.

True,305/30/19 not recommended on our skinny 9" wheels. First thing I did after mounting them was parking lot doughnuts. Hard smokey doughnuts to the left,then right. 9 Dyno pulls and Dragon run. If I started loosing air pressure,I would be more concerned. If someone made a decent looking !!" wide wheel with correct offset,I would buy new wheels. Squirrel Crusher

There are several wheels available with wider rims, I am running 275's on 9 1/2 in . rims, the recommended size. By the way, I think ours are only 8 1/2 on the back, they could have made them a bit wider from the factory but they weren't thinking Americans propensity for modifying everything. LOL

Last year I mounted the Hankook Ventus on my roadster (235/275 f/r) and have about 4k miles on them. The tires seem to grip well and there is low road noise. It is not out in the rain much nor do I drive it hard, so I cannot comment on stickiness.


Yesterday I went with 235/285 for the SRT6. Had a nail in the right rear and Discount Tire would not patch since the oem tires were ove3r 10 years old. I was planning on new tires next season. But I occasionally pop off 100-120 mph and would much rather be safe.

I couldn't agree more.

Hankooks:
When I got my SRT-6 coupe, it had relatively new Hankooks (stock size) on them. I was rather embarrassed at the Dragon as these tires would not hook up to save my life on the curves. Danimal was constantly on my tail. I think Hankooks are great for everyday and light-aggressive driving or on N/As.

Michelin A/S (run-flats):
The next Dragon I put on 285/35/19s Michelin A/S. They were run-flats. These tires performed great and I got a lot of miles out of them. I received a lot of "why are you running run-flats" questions, but they did save my bacon. I'm not into smooth rides, so the extra harshness was not a concern for me.

PS2s - I was lucky to take advantage of the CostCo snafu back in 2008 when they had the 255/35/19s at $105/tire. Thinking back on this, I wish I would have purchased 4 pairs of these tires at that price. They gripped like magic, but have a very short life. I managed to get maybe 11,000 miles. I guess if I were to drive like a grandma, I would have been able to get more miles out of the tires, but that is not my style.

Michelin Super Sports - I have the 265/35/19s now on the rear. They do perform great when it is warmer out. Below 65-70 degrees, they do not hook up too well (and we will not even talk about snow ). I do wish I would have sprung for the 275/35/19s now.

For the fronts I currently have the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s (stock size). The grip is very satisfactory for the price (about $125 each) and they perform well on curvy roads.
