Oil filter questions
Today was going to be the day I tackled my first XF oil change so off to Wally World to get my Mobil One 0w40.OK, Then I went looking for a filter, first stop Chrysler. Don't worry I stopped there top get a price and actually look at the filter, not to buy (stealership and all). Of course none in stock and at $36 a pop they can't be a big seller. As I was leaving there was a Sapphire Blue Roadster outside the service department. They can get me one by tomorrow. Next stop NAPA where their GOLD filter goes for $13.29. It is made by Wix which I have never heard of. Across the street Autozone has a Mobil One for $19.99 a K&N for $25.99 and a Bosch for $15.99.
Curious as to which one of the available filters others here would choose. I am leaning towards the Mobil One because I have used them with good results in other vehicles.
Mobil One
K&N
NAPPA GOLD
Bosch

Just make sure with our extended oil changes you use a fleece filter, not a paper one. NeedsWings has the Mann fleece filters: Mann Fleece Oil Filter
Edit - ala is quicker on the draw than me

There is a NAPA number for them, same German Fleece filter -but around $18.
Oh...You won't find a Fleece filter at Walmart.
The Purolator filter is the same as the Mann filter that everyone raves about? It was a Purolator filter that completely failed my high-mileage oil change interval test on my M-class (takes the same oil filter). At 11,000 miles, the shape of the filter was ruined. In some places the pleats were smashed together not allowing any oil through. In other places the pleats were stretched out flat. A wix filter did a little better, but the Mercedes Benz filters were the only ones that were still in good shape after 10,000 miles. They have a support spiraled around the outside of the pleats that seems to help it hold together.
Mann HU781/5 on the left and Purolator L25277 AKA Mann HU781/5 on the right.
I buy mine from Rob and you won't find a better price on the MANN or any other rebranded box. The NAPA you priced is most likely the paper filter. If you ask for the filter for the MB, they will sell you the fleece.

Yes it is! That is NOT the Purolator filter I used. I double-checked my records. I used an L25276, not an L25277. The ..76 does not have the wrap around the outside of the pleats. Very interesting, does anyone know more about the differences?
L25276

L25277
L25276

L25277
I found some info from our friends over at MBworld:
Apparenly Advance Auto Parts, and possible other parts stores, list the L25276 for many MB V6 engines, but the L25277 is the better filter.
Good to know. I am going to keep buying mine at the dealership though.

I had a paper filter falling apart when I got my car.
Me too....got to keep ole' Rob in business if we want to continue to keep new go-fast parts coming our way. Whats a few cents between friends...
A four-stroke engine is characterized by four strokes or movements of a piston in a cylinder. These include the intake (induction) stroke, the compression stroke, the power stroke, and the exhaust stroke with no exception on the Chrysler Crossfire.
Curious minds what to know how the heck that works .......
Just picked up the L25277 Purolator at Advanced for $12.99. So I am thinking of Thursday weather permitting. Thanks to everyone for steering me in the right direction.
