small valve cover gasket
small valve cover gasket
I have the standard 3.2 L engine. There is what appears to be a small valve cover gasket just under the oil filler. This is above the main valve cover gasket. It is about 10 inches long. Mine is leaking oil. I went to my Chrysler dealer and they said " it is a non serviceable part. It is part of the valve cover". I can't believe this. Does anyone have a part number for this gasket? Should I visit my local Mercedes parts department?

LOLOLOLLLLLL
NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP!!!!!!!!!!! They have no idea of which they speak. There is no gasket. You must strip and rebuild the gasket with high temp RTV.
This is a well documented problem and all owners need to do, or have done this procedure. There are many write ups for this, and it is easy for anyone to do, as long as you have a little patience and an eye for detail.

Are 3 links. A wire brush, a tube of Black high temp gasket sealent, a small scraper, and the appropriate Torx bits. If You need to buy the torx bits this procedure will cost you $30. If you have a basic set already then all you probably need is the Black RTV.
I did both of mine one sunny saturday this last spring. It took me 3 hours to do both. Do not over tighten the bolts on the way back in.

Re: small valve cover gasket
Buy new bolts at your Mercedes dealership. They are only designed to be used once. They are very inexpensive. I bought the Mercedes RTV too but it wasn't really necessary. Just make sure you buy the correct type. I used a brass wire brush so as not to wear on the covers,
