Crossfire before you give it to your insurance company. It's sad we have lost several over the past few months.

I have a friend who hears me speak of mine and the fun we all have with them and he want's in too. He says he can't dive in full price on a fully drivable car but he is in the business of repairing crashed cars and has considered buying a salvaged Crossfire. I think doing so will also help "bypass" any issue with his wife saying not to spend money buying a Crossfire just to get one. At least if he buys a salvaged Crossie he has time and effort into it and can justify the discounted price and slide it through with the other cars he does.

So get your insurance company buyback price and let me know!

Used and Salvage Auction for 2004 CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE BASE; LIMITED | VIN: 1C3AN69L44X024681

That brings me to a question I always had. I have seen Salvage cars that have virtually no damage or very little damage that could be fixed with replacing a fender or simply a hood. Those parts if bought use will cost less than $500 bucks so I am not sure why an insurance company would deem said car as a salvage?
If a person gets into an accident. Can he tell the insurance he does not want to have the vehicle repaired but rather take the money, which would then deem the car as a salvage, then take the cash and put it towards a new car? Is that possible?

I bought my girlfriend a 2004 BMW 325i just recently from a car auction. Car had a salvage title and was in impeccable condition inside and outside and especially mechanically with only 48,000 Florida miles on it, 1 owner. Everything checked out mechanically and car must have been garaged as there was no wear or tear to the interior (seats etc.) and the beautiful white exterior paint was just as immaculate. All I had to do is replace the hood of that vehicle and she runs like brand new. All maintenance from day one was done at the BMW dealership. I got a price that was too good to turn down for a virtually like new vehicle.
Now my question would be why the insurance deemed that car a salvage when the repair work was so low it could have not possibly cost more than the worth of the vehicle with such low mileage.

Sometimes, the reason a car is 'totalled' is because there is someone who would pay a premium for a car model that they want. This (in cases like these) is a form of insurance fraud, and some of the parties involved are compensated. Its like the repair shop that front end loads a repair bill after they get a signature, insurance totals the car, the owner gets the check, and the repair place gets a car they can fix for almost nothing and sell it or transfer it to whomever they want for whatever they can get (insurance companies will usually take the highest offer and the original owner got a pittance but doesn't realize or care to buy back the car). Every case is different but there are these types of horror stories and they are more frequent than you realize.

I had an offer for my daily driver from the body shop before the insurance company had a chance to decide if it's totaled or not after smacking a deer.

The best way to get a wrecked car for less is to hold out for personal injuries that you may have suffered as a result of a crash that was totally the fault of somebody else. Insurance companies want to close the file ASAP so throwing in a wreck is small potatoes to seal a deal for them. They want to close while spending the least amount of money. I am definitely not saying you should rip them off, but just be as business like as they are to you. They want to pay at least as possible and you want a fair settlement.
Let's face it, you may be on your deathbed but to them you are a just another potential open ended drain on profit.

Nice stories, but none of that happens in Indiana anymore. Insurance companies have wised up, and body shops can no longer get away with it. Medical is usually separate from the physical damage to the car as well. Cars get totaled that have minimal damage because people don't have insurance, will default on the loan as a result leaving the car in limbo. Bank doesn't want it back. So it is considered salvage because it was sold damaged due to a fender bender and a defaulting owner. Now if insured, it would have been fixed. Another instance if stolen and slightly damaged. The insured here in IN can refuse the car, since they don't know what or how the car was driven before the damaged occurred. My Suzuki 90 was a stolen and recovered vehicle with slight damage (scratches) and was considered salvage. Some stolen cars have no damage at all. But recovering them took time and the person had already settled with the insurance company and have a new car. Again, in IN, it is considered salvage.

The insurance companies have most people over a barrel because they need the insurance payout to get a new car ASAP, if you can drag it out you are in a much better position.

That is the auction I purchased my gf's BMW 325i from in my area. Like I said, car had very little damage that was easy for me to repair and runs like brand new for a price I couldn't even buy a honda civic with 200K plus miles that is virtually falling apart.
It is very surprising how many cars are deemed totaled but I guess without knowing all the details it's hard to know why that was the case...
