Default OBD2 Read Error

Hi, I have a Autel MS300 OBDII reader. When I try to scan for codes, it goes through the various scans , then says read error. Tried reseating it , same result. Anyone else have this issue ?

I am not familiar with that scanner, however, first I would start by making sure the obdII port has power, there is a fuse for it in the under the hood fuse box, no power no scan. Unless you have a cable connected that has a led indicator indicating power on obdII port.

As far as I can tell it's getting power.

Okay , I feel a little foolish , but I figured it out. The igniition has to be in the on position , I had it in the accessory position.
