hey guys the check engine light came on in our 06 coupe (about 50K) the shop said the sensor reading indicated an air injector? needed replacing? but for the time being they reset the warning light because it was "in history" and said to let them know if it comes back on. Well it came back on so Im thinking it's the same issue. The shop quotted he $1500 for part - does this sound valid? If so I'll pay it but wanted to check here first. PS - I am not a mechanic.
2) The Relay Control Module which controls the air injector pump is the more likely cause of the problem, and it can cause unrelated problems like a no start. $119 on Amazon:
4) Her is a picture of the air injector on the front of the engine. There have been instances where cleaning the electrical connector contacts, and the grounding wire connector shown in the picture has solved the problem.
The money light is most likely due to burnt relay contacts for the air pump in the RCM module.
DJ Tighe can rebuild the RCM for you for @ $50.
email him at tighed1@hotmail.com
thanks for the responses guys - this is a private shop doing work on all cars - maybe I should get a second opinion - just finding an honest shop is harder and harder these days
I would not say the shop is dishonest. Although they should not be just throwing $1500 parts at the car. They did find the error with the air injector system. They just jumped to conclusion it was the pump. I would say they are not familiar with the car. You should look for a independent shop that works on German cars.
Google Crossfire RCM and you will find videos of the replacement. Very simple swap out. Even if you do not do it yourself you can show your mechanic so he can do it.
The members telling you it is the RCM are very knowledgeable.
Or you could post your state/location and another crossfire owner local to you might help with (first) the RCM rebuilt by member tighed1 (providing this isn't your only vehicle) OR after a purchase of an RCM helping YOU or him/her putting it in your car. The part is widely available spreading the cost from @ 100 or so +/-. After that most of us believe the car will be fine. That beats the hell out of a shop part/labor as you will find out if you take it anywhere. DO NOT TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP (we don't call them stealerships for nothing). Trust me on this dealership one. Good luck!
THANKS for all the help guys - I ordered the part(s) Toolman suggested but the one part wont be in for a few weeks. I asked for expedited shipping but no response.

Do you think it's OK to drive the car until then?
The air injector pump is used to reduce emissions. It will not be a problem driving the car.
Did you try to run the motor from 12V (battery voltage)? Replacing that motor if not needed is just throwing $ at the problem until your either broke or the car is running fine again. There is a slight chance the motor is bad BUT if it is OK your right back where you started and $ short. Hope the motor fixes your problem, Good luck!
