Default Turn Signal Quirk

I think I found a quirk in my 2004 XF. I noticed a pattern that might be caused by disconnecting the battery while I work on the XF.
Upon reconnecting the battery, I have noticed that the turn signals no longer work. If I push the Emergency flasher button, all four corners flash as they should. Then, after turning off the Emergency flasher, the turn signals work again as they should.
This has proven true several times.
I don't know why yet. Software/firmware feature maybe. But it works.
I thought that I would pass this info along to the group.

Nevermind! This isn't true. My turn signals are out again. Hazards work, but no turn signals.

There is a turn signal gizmo in the under hood fuse panel if I remember correctly. It may have failed.

It is actually a relay not a gizmo. 😀

My turn signal problem turned out to be self inflicted. I had totally removed all the dash and console plastic panels for painting. I discovered that during reassembly, the Emergency Flasher wiring connector did not properly click into place. This caused an intermittent connection that would cause the turn signals to not operate at times. I properly seated the connector and now the turn signals work as they should.

Thank for letting us know and happy you solved the problem. What kind of paint did you use for the plastic panels? Were they worn out?

The interior plastic panels were showing scuff marks and were looking worn. I changed the light gray to dark slate and used SEM Color Coat. I also took the liberty to introduce some Firethorn Red, also a SEM color.
