Finally after 2 years of being on the forum enough work has been started that it’s finally time to sit down and start a build page of what I started with and what all I have purchased and what work has been started. I wanted to start this sooner but unfortunately I was laid off back in Nov 22 and that stopped the work but I have accepted a position and work now now continue! Before we continue a huge special shout out to Rudy Compart, Paul Superti, Gary Evans, Moe Performance, and anyone else in the community that has spoken to me or directly helped me with the parts/build!
I started with a stock 2004 black Auto trans crossfire coupe with 210,000 miles on it. My grandfather owns a body shop and has painted cars for 40 years so with him approaching 75 this is going to be our last project together! The goal is to take the stock xfire and turn it into an actual race build (parts wise) that also has the flare of a fast and furious style show car. The car will be painted using a gm paint code called midnight black. I’ll include a pic of my grandfather’s 1970 olds cutlass that is the same color until we get to the point of painting the xfire. The xfire will be trimmed in dodge ignition orange and will have the AMG logo done in ignition orange on the sides.
I will add all the updates under each section as they happen. 1: Suspension, 2: Enginfe/Trans/Rear End 3: Body 4: Interior and 5: Accessories
Here are the photos of what I’m starting with (stock crossfire)
Stock body 04 crossfire
Being a complete restore/show build I also took before pics of the underneath. As the suspension section will show the plan is to completely redo everything to an autocross racing style setup and the show portion will see the underside rust removed and completely restored to match the new parts!
each section to be its own comment due to the 10 picture limit! This will be an ongoing build update through the spring and summer as this car is complex and any feedback is welcomed!
After speaking with Paul about his autocross set up and things. I have purchased the following components for the suspension of the car. Megan Racing Tow arms
a complete coilover kit by KW
and finally new front and rear H&R sway bars
not purchased yet but will be coming soon is the K2 big brake kit in orange to match the color scheme
after a lot of discussion and direction from Rudy Compart and a lot of luck I stumbled upon a wrecked (drivers side was wiped out by a deer) 2002 CLK 55 Amg with 45,000 miles on it and that became the donor car. (a lot of luck because I purchased the whole car for 2K!)
pulled
new parts that also needed purchased was new engine and trans supports
new headers had to be purchased for the swap
shout out to Rob at NeedsWings for the awesome midpipes for the build!
and as we continue forward there will be work to the intake manifold and things to get the engine more “show” ready
*****Update!!**** here is pics of the engine installed and also I have a video of the first pull, if I can get it to upload!

Reason: Updates!
there are several plans for the body and that will really start to take shape when my grandfather and I start working on the car ourselves and this section will expand greatly! Until then I will share the carbon fiber hood that Moe helped me snag and I can’t wait to see it on the car! Also I’ll take opinions (leave it carbon or paint it Black and the vents orange)
Should the vents be orange or carbon Carbon or black?
Carbon Fiber Big Wing just purchased 03/26/2023

5: Accessories
i found my kit on EBay!!! The company discontinued it and I didn’t think I was going to be able to get it but someone sold one on eBay and I grabbed it! Zex Universal V8 EFI Nitrous kit!

Can't wait to see the color scheme/design. Keep up the great work and most importantly keep us posted. I enjoy reading about this project and following how your car progresses. Lastly ...have as much fun as you can with your grandfather. That time is invaluable!

I say paint it black and orange to fit the color scheme uniformly. I think the orange accents on the black hood would look badass!
