Default Plastic Rocker Panel Cover Seal Breaking

This is a question for anyone but especially for those that have removed their Rocker Panel Covers. The hard plastic seal between the cover and the body just below the sill plate on my roadster keeps breaking off in about one inch pieces. Driver's door is worse than the passenger door. Will this cause any problems such as rust under the cover? The rubber door seal seems to touch on or just above that seal when the doors are closed so doesn't seem to seal that space. Anyone else have this problem? The parts listing doesn't show this part but I think it's included as part -9 in the description. I think the part number is 05101333AA for the left and 05101332AA for the right which is discontinued and unavailable.

I don't think it missing will cause any damage. I believe it is there to prevent squeaks. Mine has not broke, but has shrunk leaving gaps at each end. I am not concerned. Check out these photos:

Thank you James. I had seen that article and the instructions were very well done. I was concerned about removing them after reading comments about clips breaking and needing to be replaced when they were 5 years old. Now they are twenty year old plastic. I didn't read any mention of rust in that article so I hope mine are good too. Thank you again for the response.

Mine did the same a couple of Years ago . . . it was only slide out of place. The tip of that black plastic is intact.
