CD Changer location?
I have just bought a cd changer for the Crossfire and was wondering if anyone has one fitted and if so where you fitted it?
I was thinking of installing it behind the passenger seat low down.
I didn't really want to put it in the boot.
I was also wondering is there any room beside the bassbox in the boot.
I've never had the cover off so don't even know what's really in there.
Thanks.
Norrie.

No room behind the seat covering near the bass speaker at all. PERIOD. Not for anything bigger than a iPod.
There is plenty of room under the front floor, forward of the stereo amplifier, but you'd have an awful time changing discs.
I placed mine in the boot (cargo area) under the floor cover on the passenger side. There is already a pocket in the styrofoam for a first aid kit and I just made it deeper.
If you really don't want it there, you MAY be able to mount it behind the passenger seat, but you will never be able to get the seat all the way back again.
Good luck with finding your ideal location.
Cheers!

I've been idly shopping around and was wondering where to put the changer...
Good idea I will have a look tomorrow.
Can I ask if you have the original stereo still in the car?
I notice form your gallery that you have an Ipod connection that's why I was wondering.
Thanks.
Norrie.

Yes, I still have the factory head unit (stereo) with NAV. I cheated and used the CD-Changer to 'trick' the head unit into believing it is using the changer for audio when in reality it's using the iPod for audio and still controlling the changer.
I have another little device that will switch audio sources, but it needs a trigger. I have not had time to work with it, but hope that it will allow me to use the changer's audio when I unplug the iPod from it's cable.
Cheers!

Received the changer today.
I have had a look under the carpet in the boot and that will be ideal.
How did you make it deeper and did you bolt the changer to the base or side of the hole?
Also where did you run the cable for the changer and did you have the proper pins to remove the stereo or did you improvise?
I was thinking of using two hacksaw blades.
Sorry for all the questions but it's just easier than me working it all out for myself if someone has already done it.
Thanks.
Norrie.

I basically cut the hole deeper with a kitchen carving knife. Rough, but you just need the hole to go all the way through the styrofoam.
I ran the cable along the passenger side following the factory wiring routes. I had a 25 foot cable and only had a few feet left over just before the changer, so make sure you get at least 25 feet.
Two hacksaw blades cut to the proper shape would indeed work for the 'keys'. Here is the pattern I used for mine.

I got the cable with the changer and it's 18 feet long.
Do you not think that will be long enough?
I can always make it longer.
It might be better to run it down the centre console although I'm not sure how I would take it into the boot.
Did you have to remove any trim?
Thanks for your help I appreciate it.

You can probably get out the styrofoam half in the trunk (boot) floor without removing trim, but it will be a struggle. Any trim you remove, just be gentle.
As to where I ran my cable, I followed the stock wiring path on passenger (in the USA) side of the car from the security module (Very near the first aid kit pocket in the styrofoam) along the side, through a point in the 'wall' behind the seats and then down under the carpet and through the 'trough' that is there for the factory wiring up to the stereo amplifier under the passenger (in the USA) floor. Finally you can go up into the dash to the center area where the stereo is located.
You may have to go on the other side if your steering wheel is on the right.
Start from the front and work your way back with your cable and you should have enough with 18 feet as I had quite a bit left over and coiled up the back and under the dash.
I'll try and get some pictures posted (time permitting) of the unit installed.
I did forget to mention in the previous post. I did not mount the changer. Instead it sits in the hole on a piece of soft foam with several pieces of soft foam surrounding it.
Hope that helps.

I made the pins today at my work.
I've taking the head unit out and I'm just going to test the changer to make sure it all works before I run the cable.
When you say that you run it with the stock wiring was that along the by the sill?
Did you have to remove the carpet?
Thanks again.
Norrie.

Just plugged the changer in and it doesn't seem to work.
Can I ask what changer you have.
The one I have is a becker silverstone 7860.
How do you access the changer with the stereo?
Cheers.

I think I have found the problem.
I don't think the standard stereo controls a changer although the sat nav unit does.
Looks as though I will either need to get a sat nav unit or sell the changer.
I was told by my local car audio dealer that the changer should work with the car.
I was going to get them to supply and fit it but it was to expensive so I sourced one myself.
Bummer.
I E-Mailed Becker to see what they say although when I first got the car I contacted them and was told it wasn't even a Becker stereo the car had.

Maybe someone looking for a CD changer here on the forum might be interested in buying it from you.
