Default Another Engine Build Thread

I know we've all seen these engines ripped down and such, but here's another one.

The engine will be going into my car as soon as everything is complete. I will give details of what we are doing as we go.

Basic idea is big, forged, and torquey!

GO man GO!!!

Keep this thread up todate - don't let it die like the V8 engine swap or the STR6 engine transplant................

I'll just say we are shooting for 4.0L with N/A pistons and 3.7L for the SC crowd.

How are pistons different between NA and SC?? Dish/Dome?? Or rings?

I thought the biggest thing for forced induction was cam duration and valvetrain.

Compression ratio. You don't want 11.5:1 in a boosted app.

I'd go for a 4.0 liter NA == if the clutch and 6spd would handle it !!!! Question is-- how much ????

Okay, so dish vs. dome, I was curious if construction was it. Hypereutectic, cast, and forged wouldn't really care. Well maybe the cast ones on second thought.

We're taking deposits of First Born, family heirlooms, and italian sports cars. You can just go ahead and mail over the deed to your house while you're at it.

Stroker kits are normally quite exspensive, getting your block resleeved for a bigger bore and stroked with forged pistons, rods, rings. I love it! Is this just for the TVT car or is this going to be a possible kit for the future.

The SRT enginees have dished pistons for 9:1 compression vs the N/A's 10:1 compression.

The pistons, crank, rods, etc., on the SRT are forged, not sure about the N/A's internals.

BTW why the 3.7L instead of a 4.0L for the SC crowd ?

Got around to stripping the engine apart. Our test engine suffered some serious issues during its life. Crank siezed and 5 rods are bent really bad, 5 of the 6 pistons also have the rings fused in.

We weighed them and the stock piston and rod combo averages about 1000g without bearings, but with rings. They are actually pretty light, mostly due to the design. We are looking to keep the weight under 1000g with our larger forged pistons. That's basically all of the progress thus far.

As we delve deeper we'll report back.

What caused all the damage? Was this test engine an NA or SC'ed motor?

Couldn't tell you. It was out of an 02 ML320. Basically everything is perfect except the rods and one cylinder wall. It's being bored out, so that isn't an issue for us.

Are you sure you want to build that one. I mean, seized crank, bent rods, fused rings? I hope the motor was a freebee. I guess you know what your doing, but I would rather start with something less trashed.

The block is the only thing to be reused. Everything is more or less for measuring. Engine was all of $200.00, so if it blows after one pass i could care less. I don't think it will, but we'll know for sure after it gets back from a trip to the machine shop.
