Default Important Question Magnaflow

Finally after many hard time, we got the rubber thingies off the exhaust and as we look at the Magnaflow, has any body else's unit (Magnaflow) have the hooks for the rubber thingies welded so close to the body of the unit, the rubber thingies may not fit...for lack of room? Is this clear?

I can't believe that after all this work and expense, the rubber "rings" may not slip over one of the hooks welded on the new Magnaflow? One side's welded hook is great, the other has about 1//4" opening for that big fat rubber ring to fit though. Sucks...what about you guys?

Max, ok ok, we got the one rubber thingie through the "hook" on the tight one. Not on the body of the car yet.

Max, how did you get those rings over/through the hooks? With your hands? Magnaflow's tip are fatter than OEM. Diffifcult to slide hands/tools up in there. How did you do it?

Many many thanks.

OK, the hangers on the OEM and the Magnaflow are offset a bit front to back. If you lay them on the ground, side by side, the hangers fer the Mag should be in the same position relative. If you mean that a hanger is too close to the actual muffler on one side (or both) I would bend them to where they LOOK like they should go.

I said before, they may need a "brogan" adjustment.

I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Best!

Thanks Max, but I want talking abut the hooks on the Mag where those same hard to get off rubber thingies were! One side is fine, the other, Magnaflow left hardly any room to silp on the rubber. Anyway, we got it on the Mag, now we need to hook into the car.

How did you slip the rubbers back on the car/Mag? LOL

Ok, update. Got one side hook to the car. I'll be back when we are done. Max, you are just too cool for getting back on this and taking your time to help. Truly truly appreciated!!

Update, the back end is finally hooked up. He is working on the other end. We'll see if we need that hammer, Max. Thanks

Oh, thought I'd mention. My husband is a dear. He has worked on cars all is life. THIS project has been a killer. I think mostly because he is 70 years old. He pride won't let him take my Xfire to a fixit place. You know what I mean? He is determined to do this himself. I can only help so much...like holding up the OEM exhaust while he tirelessly pried off those rubber rings, holding the flashlight..giving him all the support I can.

I'll come back to finally thank Max when this whole thing is finally behind us and I have this marvelous sound. I saId to my husband "what if I wanted the OEM put back"? The looked nearly killed me until I saId "KIDDING!"

Later!

UPDATE: WOOOOHOOOOO! it is done and works great! I love the sound. We are both happy with it. No regrets, price right, etc etc. HARD work, though.

I thank you, Max, for all your help and support. I just kept thinking of what you said in another thread about this: "it can be done".

I thank the others on the forum for their input as well. You are all awesome.

Most of all, I thank Richard. (can't say D**k because it comes out as stars). He did it ! Yayaya..and I know he's happy that he never had to take it elsewhere End of story.

Thanks! Sorry I took up so many threads.

Oh yah, forgot to add, Max, we didn't need to adjust at all...no hammer needed

Thumbs up Re: Important Question Magnaflow

I'm glad it worked out!

If i were 70, it would be at the shop, no questions asked.

My sister has lived in SF for 35 years and is standing vigil at Kaiser. My brother in law is in ICU and it doesn't look good. One heluva' guy: 30 year SFPD Lieutenant (one of the really good ones)and 83.

Lend him some thoughts when you go to sleep tonight?

I'll get in touch if I have to come out.

Best, Max

Oh Max, I am so sorry to hear he is not doing well. You bet he will be in my thoughts. He only about 51 miles north west of me. No problem! I, myself, are an old geezerette. I don't like it but I usually feel a lot younger than I am...after all, I have Magnaflow ..

::thinking of your 83 year old::::

I "tied" the two rubber mounts together with a big cable tie/zip tie to keep them from slipping off -- I had to use some lube to get the tight one on the MF (that stands for MagnaFlow now, but not at the time of installation.......)

Cissy I'm so glad it worked out for you and the "kid mechanic". I'm a day late and $1.53 short (inflation) but I am definitley well satisfied with mine. I would have liked to drive or ride in a car with the kit already installed 'cause the sound clips don't do it justice, but to me the "feel" of the pulse is as great as or better than the sound. I am letting members of our local test drive it to see for themselves. I can't wait for cold weather to turn on the seat heaters and get a good massage. BTW, I cheated and had mine installed for $70 and was well worth it, including a minor tap-tap-tap adjustment. Being 77yo I can no longer roll around under a car so a lift and oxy/acc torch are necessary. Matter of note, with the sprint booster installed and using slap stick shift, it's BAAAAAAD! Good Luck

Yup I hear that! I get the same action with the stick shift auto and it downshifts nice too.

John, great post. I agree. Yah, having someone do the install is a wise thing to do. We just got stubborn . I, myself, am a 62 year old female. Many people cannot understand why I like to drive a sportscar with a heft sound. And, you know, I have no idea. My interest in cars started a long time ago. I don't even know what triggered it, but I just love cars!

I truly like my Magnaflow as well. The sound is what I was looking for...not too loud, not like the OEM. It's GREAT!

At the risk of turning this thread into and age/d**k thread, let me just make a comment or two. I've got that system on my o6 Limited Coupe and I love the sound. As I point out to some of my aged friends, my body may be 75, but none of my ideas are. A great addition to a great car. Oh, I must admit, I cheated and had the mechanic I trust with my DeLorean put the exhaust on.

It took me a few days to figure out the D**k thing. I'd sign my name and stars would appear. I just figured that one of the moderators was a female and knew just how good looking I am and felt the stars were warranted!

I seem to remember a few explitives coming out of my mouth during the install. I think that rear rubber exhaust hanger is the most over engineered part on the car . . . but it did have AMG printed on it. I need to learn to swear in German, perhaps that will help with future installs. Anyway, I did the same zip tie trick. I had one side that kept coming off, this resulted in the exhaust banging off the rear lower control arm on the drivers side when I made hard right hand turns. By pulling the two rings in tight together with a zip tie it eliminated the the exhaust hook from sliding off the hanger.
