Hoping someone could help me out.

The car was running completely normal. Now after its running for a few minutes the fan turns on excessively high, making a very loud sound that is heard within the cabin easily.

I disconnected the battery then reconnected and it stopped the problem, only to recur again the next day. Now that method has no effect.

I am pretty sure the fan is two speed. It goes on high when temps are high and/or the a/c is on. If the fan is just on high it is probably working fine, but you could have a problem with the coolant thermostat or be low on coolant. If it is just making a lot of noise, it could be a bearning in the fan motor going bad. Mine goes on high when sitting in traffic on a hot Texas day or afer running the car hard, I can hear it come on.

 

There are two electric cooling fans for our cars or a two speed single fan not sure one speed is for normall operations and then the other one kicks in when engine is very hot, which is much louder than the regular one, the second one should cycle on and off, when engine temp rises then goes back down to normal temp. If it is extreamly loud it could be off balance, check the blades for blades cracked/damaged, or if there is any kind of undercoating on it.

 

The SRT has a single speed fan motor. The speed is controlled by switching power supply that varies the applied voltage to control speed. I have monitored some of this and seen that the control gives about 4 volts to start and can go up from there. Near the 12volt range of operation, the fan makes more noise than than a Saturn rocket.

If your speed of the fan is too high under normal heat conditions, the fan controller may be too going around the bend and need replacement. The controller is the box with the fins on the drivers fender.

I assume you mean variable speed controlled not single speed.

 

Before you start throwing parts at the car, see if someone you know has a scan tool that can take a live (snapshot) picture as your car is running & focus in on the ECT (engine coolant temp. sensor) to make sure it isn't reading too high & fooling the fan to run the high side of it's variable speed. This sensor should cost a lot less than the fan circuit parts. Let us know what solves your prob.

 

Please check your coolant level. The first thing to check when a car overheats or the radiator fan is noticeable more often than usual is low coolant level.
