Default CAI - N/A vs. K&N Filters.

Considering the dual pipes leading from the front to the filters.....how much difference can I expect?
Option 1: an CAI setup
Option 2: K &N Filters - leave stock Pipes...and/or modify to a larger diameter pipe leading to the standard box with K&N.

Option 1 leads with the filter, where option 2 ends with it.
I have also heard that it is counterintuitive to install metallic CAI's which absorb and resonate heat much more readily than the plastic like material which comes stock.

Love some feedback!

My personal opinion is to stay stock w/K & N's, or go with the Needswings or TVT CAI. Everything in between is just that.....in between.

Assuming money was not an issue.... is there a major difference in performance?

If money is no object......then go for the TVT300. Yes, there are varying degrees of increased performance between stock, TVT250, TVT265 and TVT300. You have a ton of reading to do....the info is all here on the forum for your perusal.

So do the plastic pipes absorb heat more than the metal ones?

K&N panel filters will probably get you 2hp

Tvt's intake will probably get you 5-8hp

Needswings intake will probably get you 12-14hp

no I don't have any dyno data to support those numbers. just estimates based on personal experience and 10 years in the perofrmance business.

you get what you pay for

You sure the NeedsWings CAI will give you that much? Wouldn't a dual inlet CAI give you as much or more when it's pulling air straight from behind the grill? And where is the cone for the Needswings CAI, it looks like it's just before the engine?

I'd bet money that the needswings intake would make at least an additional 12hp. not only does it remove the restrictive stock intake it also removes the maf housing which is full of honey comb type crap that restricts airflow.
Also the filter is isolated from the engine bay in the front grill and gives you the best access to outside air.

Ahh I see. So if I was making a custom CAI, how would I remove the MAF housing and where would I put the MAF?

you would need to fabricate a pipe with a maf sensor flange so you can bolt it in.

Haha wow. Thanks man. I also know that some car's replace their MAF's with a higher threshold/rating than the stock one, thus increasing horepower. Is there one for the Crossfire or no? Is stock just good enough?

I would think the opposite were true. Metal would absorb more, hold a higher temp, and take longer to cool than plastic. I am not a materials expert... just going off my own experiences.
Can any of the vets in the forum confirm or deny?

Thumbs up Re: CAI - N/A vs. K&N Filters.

I have bought K&N and I love it, I could have found it a little cheaper on ebay, but I wanted a valid warranty so I got it at here. K&N 77-1516KP, or you can try one of the vendors on the forum here, you can usually find a good deal that way as well. This was very easy to install and I love it.
