Default what type of oil filter do you use?

First I wanted to know if the raised ends on some oil filters still do the job.

I have been using purolator oil filter so far. But when I changed my oil yesterday I noticed that the fuzzy white ring on both ends was starting to dissolve. Then I looked at the new oil filter and it was slightly a different shape. The filter were slightly raised on the both ends and no fuzzy ring. So I went to the dealership to look at the OEM filter, and it was smooth as I thought. I figured that someone switched filters around. So I went to advance auto to check, but that was not the case. They all were like that. I went to the counter to see if they had a replacement, maybe Mobil 1 or K&N filter but they didn’t. He told me hat filter companies make changes to make it better. Frustrated I went to Auto Zone and they carry STP and fram. The STP had the same raised ends and I haven’t used fram in years after hearing about the problems ppl are having with them. They offered me a value craft filter that didn’t have raised ends but VALUECRAFT that sounds like its going to quite after 2000 miles. I checked the wix website their filter also has the raised ends. Can somebody tell me about NAPA filters or other filter brands they use?

Why is the slk filter different then ours? Shouldn’t it be the same?

I use the MANN fleece filters and pick them up at Napa. Also heard that the K&N is also the same MANN filter.

That one looks just like the K&N filters I buy. They're also stamped "Made in Germany". I get them directly from K&N. I buy 2 at a time, with shipping, they cost less than buying 2 from AutoZone, with enough left over to pay for 1 qt. of Mobil 1.

I use the same 7078 filter from Napa. It is the same fleece filter provided by Chrysler or Mercedes. Napa lists it for an SLK. The filter they list for the Crossfire is paper? The normal price is about $17, but I have been getting it for $12.xx with a business discount.

Napa refers to the 7078 filter as a synthetic material filter, which makes it good for the longer mileage oil changes. The Napa 1226 filter will work as well, but is the paper version and just $2 cheaper.

James

PS Any brand of the synthetic filter I have looked at, looks like a MANN reboxed for their particular store brand.

There are two choices when it come to oil filters.
The main thing you want to do is buy and use fleece filters and avoid all paper filters.

I buy a 4 pack from this website
Mercedes Benz CLK320 fleece media oil filters - 4 Pack - 3.2 V6

uh... Napa wants $43 for a 7078 in Canada. Ouch, I'm going to order a bunch online.
