Original wheel well color?
I recently purchased an Alabaster '05 roadster. I have systematically been detailing it as time allows. I've gained most of my knowledge from reading this forum. I removed the wheels last weekend to do a super-clean and in the meantime noticed that the wheelwell area is pretty much a rust brown color (obviously from years of mud buildup etc.) I pulled out my pressure washer (on a light setting) to remove the big stuff and noticed that some of the cleaned areas appear to have been white in color originally. Is this the original factory color, or has the original black coloring just worn away? any thoughts on how to restore the original color are also appreciated! thanks!
I'm pretty sure that the linings are all black plastic. If there is white, perhaps the previous owner painted them. They are very easy to remove all of the way. Check the back sides.
If Andrew doesn't answer this post pm him. He had a white one and the wheel wells were clean enough to eat off/out of. Probably even pics in his gallery.
What looks like the textured undercoat in the wheelwell (kind of a bumpy surface) was painted the same color as your car. The hard plastic areas in the front wheelwells (wheelwell lining) are black plastic. Check out the pics in my gallery, I got bored one day and cleaned mine with SimpleGreen, some Bug N Tar remover, and a scrub brush. Then rinsed with water. Best to take off the wheel to do this. Most of what's on there is brake dust coated with road grime. Have fun.
Hindin, I believe this to be correct. It's the bumpy surface I'm referring to, not the hard plastic area. Seems very strange that they would paint this area white, and they are definitely far from white right now! the power washer exposed what seemed to be a white color, but I was concerned I had blasted off black paint or something. I am well equipped with SimpleGreen and scrub brushes....just have to muster up some elbow grease!
Has anyone ever tried to repaint this area? Black would certainly be more sensible.
