Is factory amp still active in my 2004 after installing an aftermarket radio?
My factory radio was missing when I recently purchased my 2004 Crossfire. A great local audio store installed a fabulous Kenwood radio with lots of graphic equalizer settings, SiriusXM direct tuner added, and Bluetooth that works like a factory unit! They used the original factory connector to install it. My question is, is the original factory amp still active with this type of installation?

Maybe, probably, depends on how they wired it. Or how the previous installer wired it. Check out the "Stock Amp is 4 Channels" thread. At the top of our forum home page is "Search"; It is between "New Posts" and "Quick Links". Click on that and type in Stock amp is 4 channels. It is very informative. You could perhaps bring the schematics to your installer and ask him about it.

Yes, but it's sure nice to modify the wiring and have the 4 channel function, instead of stock 2 channel.

But most "great" audio stores employ minimum wage, part time, high school or college kids as installers. Who knows what they did.
If you got the "free" install, or the usual $20 install, they took only fifteen minutes to install it.
JSK's seemingly non-answer is the only answer anyone can give - cause we don't KNOW what they did. Ask THEM what they did, and if they act like they are not sure - well, that's why I install my own stuff.

OR, you can take out the access panel and see if the amp is bypassed? Might help to see that at the amp location.

If the great local audio store used the original factory connector (possibly incorporating an MBZ aftermarket radio wire harness), it is most likely the original factory amp is still active. ...yes
Should have been a quick and simple deck only install.
If no one else have mentioned this to you; Here's a TIP: Keep the radio removal tool in a secret place in your Crossfire. You will need it again someday, unexpectedly.
