SLK Radio
Does anyone know if the radio in the SLK the same radio as in our XF.
I found this 6 CD changer on e-bay, and am wondering it would fit my XF.

Don't know for sure.
You obviously have a computer.
With all the aftermarket options with mp3 playback being so cheap these days I see no need for a disc changer. It is like an 8 track at this point.
An aftermarket head unit with an ipod controller is the current replacement for lots of music at your fingertips.
Just something to think about.

Yep, what I really want is the PhatNoice box, but it's not available for the XF or MB yet. I have the factory NAV head unit, and don't want to give up the NAV, plus I don't care much for the aftermarket look (mostly). I'm also looking for the Ipod connector as an alternative to the Phatbox, but would consider a CD changer as a short term solution.

Well, if I can replace the stock head unit with a JVC aftermarket head unit, plugging it directly into the existing socket (I did swap 2 wires though) then I can't see any reason why one couldn't install a head unit from the SLK.
But then, I'm an electrical engineer and have been doing electrical design for 25 years. Let me know if you need any pointers, I'll be glad to help.

I do not think it will work. The new SLK and others used MOST based systems which are linked via an optical cable link.
As for the Phat Box it will work with the NAV unit, you will need the Traffic Pro version.

Wait a minute; you're getting me all excited.
Traffic Pro is a platform from Becker, it happens to be the basis for our Nav radio and a version that was sold by Harman Kardon a few years back. Since the CD changer that is specified to work with our Nav system is the same it should work.
Phat Noise offers several units so when you call them you want to inquire about the Traffic Pro version.

Thanks to Infinity I found the Phatbox for the XF. It's made for the Becker Traffic Pro. Here's the link to Amazon, unfortunately it's out of stock right now.

I know some of you have taken out the head unit w/NAV out to install a CD changer, or added a new unit with NAV. Can you tell me if this plug looks like it would fit the back of the head unit? This is the cable that would come with the Phatbox, and I would like to know if it looks right. I don't know how to pull the head unit out.
FPMartinez,
You can look in this thread here and see what pictures I took of the OEM head unit with NAV.
You can see in post #7 that the plug looks correct. In fact that connector is correctly color coded and is modular. If one or two of the plugs has nothing in them, you can just pull them off and not use them. I was able to split the plug from my CD-Changer and add a piece from the becker iPod cable and tie power in and it works (no song display, see the thread).
I just hope the head unit recognizes the Phat Box for a CD-Changer. If not, you will never get it to use the 'aux/CD-changer' inputs.
Good luck!

Are you saying I should read the description? Or, you read the description? My eyes are not getting old, they are old,
but I don't see anything saying it came from an SLK.
I don't know what the trunk (boot) of the Roadster is like, but the coupe has two styrofoam filler units in the back. The driver's side one (in the states) has the jack and TyreFit stuff, the passenger side (in the states) has a spot where it was noted a first aid kit went in the UK.
I used this 'first aid kit' compartment by making it deeper and lining it with 3/4" soft foam. I then ran my cables along the passenger side of the vehicle following the factory wiring, which goes down the middle of the passenger side floor, under the seat and then slightly toward the outside of the body and through a factory opening in the 'wall' behind the seat. It continues to the security module in the rear. I then threaded the cable under the styrofoam from there to the CD-Changer.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you need a picture of the changer in place for reference.
Cheers!
