Default Custom Sub Box for Footwell

Since there are so many people here that are looking for another solution for sub boxes for our car, I am going to have my installer evaluate my car for a sub box in the passenger footwell area. It would be packaged with a 6", 8", or 10" ( most likely 8") sub, prefabricated box wrapped in either black of charcoal carpet, shipped and ready to install. I can also package it with an amp and all of the parts, cables, ect.. you would need to install the system. Even though it may only be an 8", it sounds GREAT in the car. its a night and day difference. You will be purchasing it from Sound Advice (where I work), with a receipt in your name, and an extended warranty on the sub if you choose. I also have the #1 installer in the whole Tweeter company (150+ stores) building the box, so it would be a quality piece. I would like to know how many people would be interested in this box, or if you have any other ideas such as a custom low profile box for the trunk, let me know. My preliminary estimates would be around $700 for the box, not including the sub. Keep in mind, this will be the quality of a JL Stealth Box. If I do this using my car, I just want to do it one time. I need to know how many people would be interested in this to take the time to make a mold so they can be made to order. Post any questions you have.

Does the lack of replies mean that nobody is remotely interested in this box to even post a comment? This is a solution for the lack of bass problem, an a good solution at that, and nobody has anything to say. Humor me at least and ask a few questions or something.

I think this is a good idea, especially for the convertibles. I have 2 10" subs in the hatch, but I do not know if very many people realize the sound quality you can get from a good 8" sub. would be even cooler if you could fiberglass it though! Good luck.

The box would be fiberglassed. Many layers of fiberglass, with a wood top where your feet rest. That's the only way to get it to mold properly and look like its not there. This isn't a box thrown together with a few pieces of wood.

It sounds like it will be really cool. But @ $700.00 for just the box I don't think you will be selling many without people being able to see it installed and hear how it sounds. Just my 2 cents.

I would be interested in this...but it is a MUST that i would need to see the final product and know how much air space would be inside the box and what brand of sub would be used...just incase i would like to go with another brand of sub...of course only after knowing the interior cubic air space of box!

BlackCrossFire6spd,

If you need extra 'space' in the passenger footwell area... go with a smaller AMP and remove the factory one... takes a LOT of space under there and there is also a lot of open space behind it.

To build a box with a built in AMP and sub that fit UNDER the carpet would be the ultimate stealth install in my opinion.

I have plenty of bass for my nearly 40 year old ears... but others like that 'shake you fillings loose' feeling.

I thought of doing that. Decided to go with fiberglass base molded to the shape of the gas tank. 2 JL 10 w 7s. 500/5 amp. I will try to upload pictures.

Putting a JL 500/5 on 2 10W7s is a very very bad idea. A single 10W7 should have a JL500/1 powering it. You are talking about putting a 250/1(the sub section of the 500/5) on 2 10W7s. It is not going to sound good at all, and it will damage your equipment.

Sorry, I forgot to mention 2 500/1. The 500/5 will be exposed, it run the front sets. The 500/1's are for the 7's. I'm constructing the box to fit right behind the seat, over the tank. All the weight is over the rear axle. 500/1's mounted in tool compartment area, with false enclosure. I'll try to upload pictures. I'm not very good at it.

Is there any reason you are using a 500/5 for your system then? It would seem more logical to use a 300/2 or bi-amp your components using a 300/4. You can easily sell a used 500/5 for the price of a new 300/2. That amp would sound much better since its a dedicated 2 channel with a larger power supply and 50 more watts per channel, and has more crossover adjustments.
