'05 Roadster Base, can the rear speakers be added?
Hello everyone,
I'm new here with this, just bought my roadster last saturday.
I was wondering if you guys could help me out, either with knowledge, or pictures, or both.
I want to add the rear speakers to my roadster, I just changed the radio yesterday to an Alpine ipod ready deck, sounds sooo much better than that Harmon/Becker crap they built it with, stock door speakers sound great, I just want the sound to also come from the back, feels weird without it,
Thanks.

Do a search on the sound system.
I think PELKED1 ??? (can't remember the correct name) did an excellent write-up on adding capacitors to the mid-range door speakers. A lot of people (including myself) have done this mod and everybody loves it. Costs about $2. Then you crank the bass up to 6, 7, 8 (whatever your preference) - now you can feel & hear the rear speakers.

I believe he meant to say he bought a base coupe, which doesn't have any rear speakers, only the ones in the door. Trust me on this i own one. And that is an excellent question, anyone attempted this?? Heck maybe i will try today, someone quick tell me where the stock amplifier
Hey madhatter,
Your right I bought a roadster (convertible) base model, so it doesn't have the speakers behind the seats, only in the doors. The factory amp goes behind the carpet on the passenger side under the dash, pull the carpet back and there is a piece of foam, pull that out and I believe the amp goes somewhere in there.
Thanks,

If you tap the carpet behind the seats - where the speakers would/should be, does it sound hollow?
i.e.) is the bulkhead already cut away?
This may be your first hurdle.

Ya, the speaker holes are already there i have pulled the carpet out before to check. The only real question i have is where does the stock amplifier sit??
Is there a stock amplifier???
Is there a stock amplifier???
pull the passenger side carpet up from the dash, it would go where the passengers feet would be, but I think on our base models there is no amp, how did you get the carpet out behind the seats? do you know what size the speaker holes are?
the speaker holes are 6.5 or 6.25, never bothered to measure them because i will for sure open them up to at least 8 inch. and as for the carpet start in the corner behind the seat and you can work it out a little, otherwise you have to take the seats out and remove the plastic around the doors. its about 2 hours worth of work if you know what you are doing and you have 12 yr old girls hands. took me about 3 hrs and some bloody knuckles, oh well. now i need to find that amp hole and see how big it is. by the way where is HDDP, his car is stripped and he could tell me in about 5 minutes how big the hole is.
Hey does anyone have pictures of what the rear speakers look like? Curious to know how the stock set up looks, I have a pair of Alpine type R 6 1/2 component woofers I want to throw in there. Thanks.
I measured the opening to be 7" round, has anybody done this before? How do you make the difference in size? A 1/2" is a lot to make up for. And every speaker that says it is a 6 3/4" is a 6 1/2", from what I've found! Any body have any idea?
