Ok, so this is something I've been researching a lot lately because I can't use my iPod charger/cradle/transmitter with my automatic. This is simply the marine version of the Alpine I was hoping to buy anyways (iDA-X100) and the color obviously looks better. I have two questions:

1. Will the marine version install just like the iDA-X100?

2. beto7650@yahoo.com - Do you really feel like the sound quality is going to be THAT bad? I've heard the normal car version and it sounds great to me.

 

Well, this thread may be dead already, but I ordered the radio and all of the components today, so I'll try to show pictures whenever I get it installed. They said it would be between two and three weeks before it was in-stock.

 

I called Alpine USA today and asked about the iDA-X100M. I've had mine on order for about a month now from Crutchfield.

Alpine told me they won't be available until the end of June.

 

Sounds right. I called Crutchfield yesterday and asked when and the guy told me the unit was delayed.
Here's a question and forgive me I'm stereo illiterate.....our stock unit is 240 watts, the Alpine in question (Marine or the non M version) is 45W X 4 so I am assuming its only 180 watts?
Will I be losing power with this unit or will the Infinity amp crank what coming out to 240?

Do you mean it's on its way to you, or that it will eventually be on its way to you? If they have shipped it, I'll cancel my current order and re-order one from Crutchfield.

 

ND - Crutchfield told me Late June also just last week and they weren't even sure about that. As for it being the same as the non marine fit wise thats a yes. My understanding is that the guts have been upgraded to deal with a "marine" environment otherwise the same radio. I've pretty much decided on the IDA - X001. Its 130$ cheaper and I can have it now.

I bought mine from an Alpine Distributer (I live in Houston!) it cost me $290 (didn't have to pay shipping or tax!) and will be here next week! as soon as I install it, I'll post some pics!

 

I live in Houston also and want to order the same unit - where did you get it from? Anyone specific I can ask for?

Unfortunately I found out 3 days ago that even the distributer's order is not gonna be here till late June/early July! (back order!!) I saw the real picture of the unit and realized that it's not really silver!!! It’s actually white rather than silver! So all that excitement about this matching my dash was replaced with disappointment!! Another thing I found out is that the screen has glare in the sun, and since I have a convertible, that’s not good! It retails at $199.99 but I got it for $95 from another distributer! Good thing about it is that the frame and part of the face plate have silver color, close to our dash color! Plus, you can’t argue with that price!!!

Spoke to Crutchfield on Wednesday this week and they are now saying mid to end of July on the X100M. I bought an X-001. I'm not waiting and it was a good deal less expensive.

I've been considering this one too, but I saw it on display yesterday, and the color is more gunmetal than silver. I'd like to see pictures once you've installed it, please.

Does anyone but me hate the fact that most modern replacement head units look WAY too busy... even when they are off?

The factory head unit was a bit busy, but at least the buttons kind of blended with the rest of the face.

I agree, they are busy and I would much rather have one that looks much simpler! but good luck finding one (I know I couldn't!) so for right now, I'm sticking with what's more practical!
