Default Designing my own stereo

Ok guys. So I have decided to upgrade my stereo. I have a base 2006 Roadster. And when the top is down, the stereo is just plain crappy. I am wondering where it is safe to drill and cut in the rear wall behind the seats to mount some new componants? I need some direction on what to do as far as opening up 2 new channels as well. So give me some info or ideas guys and I will see what I come up with. Thanks

Nope, not at all. As far as I know that is where the Gas Tank is.. bad bad bad idea to drill there.

This is correct.

It's also made of hot-stamped Boron steel.......if you do decide to cut there........get a whole lot of drill bits!

Well than where are the other 2 speakers placed in the Limited? And the sub? Were they not placed in the rear wall?

tweaters on the door

edit:

2x tweaters, one on each door, 2x speakers, one on each door, 2x woofers (used at subs, kinda), one behind each seat

= 6 'speaker' infinity system of retarded midrange bass.

yes everyone that is telling you to not cut into the back wall is only part true. half of it is gas the other half is just bracing for handling. but there are speakers in it and also enough space for guys to be putting the roadster rollbars into. so since you have a roadster im pretty sure there is some room around that

You can cut and drill into the passenger side of the wall. BUT... be aware of what you are cutting... a major structural member of the car.

True, the fuel tank is located behind the double wall. The tank also has a titanium plate covering it for safety.

The speakers located in the wall behind the seats are kind of small, so check your depth before you decide to enlarge the openings for bigger speakers.

Look and measure twice BEFORE you cut or drill... Good luck!

since there isnt much room to work with.. look in to buying shallow mount speakers.. they are only a few inches deep and still get great sound.. this may be an answer for you

Any Ideas on what to do as far as adaping my 4 speaker system into a 6 speaker system? An is there a template to find where the origonal holes would have been had my car been a limited?

HI Sinners.....

This is what I did on mine.....

Replaced the Headunit for Pioneer 9800....Replaced the amplifier with a Sony Slim 4 Chanel... i fit perfect.... replaced the door speakers with Alpine component...... I put a Blaupunkt amplified subwoofer just under the dasboard on top of the footwell passenger side..... the only thing I left was the factory subwoofer on the back of the seats ......

What a difference......this is a dream sound system.....the quality is perfect..... and it didn't cost much....... The factory stereo and amplifier on these cars are trash...trash...trash..... I replaced every piece at the time....just by replacing the headunit...you'll see a major change..... then I did the amplifier..($199.00).... big difference too........ I did want more bass...so I put the amplified subwoofer and replace the front speakers.... you don't really need to replace the rear subwoofers.... ... I didn't want to get in a major drilling and cutting project.....

It wasn't easy anyway...... people in this forum talk too much.... millions of different ideas.... most of them just bullshit.....

I don't know anything about stereos.... but I have common sense I the simple stereo I built I think is the best for a crossfire roadster... without breaking my budget......

The best thing I did was getting a good headunit..... with 16 band graphic equalizer ....this helps a lot to improve the quality of your sound.... I had before one of those. 3 band parametric equalizer... piece of ****...... so hard to get it right......

Well... that's it.... good luck...

Beto..

The subwoofer speaker holes for the base cf are already cut. The only difference is there are no subs in them as there are in the limited. Just pull the carpet up behind and seat and look for them. They are there!!

Kicker and JL make a 6.5 inch sub (even though people will say it's a mid range speaker.. It's a sub)... Thats the dilemma I'm in now as to whether they will fit in the space provided right behind the seats where the subs go. I'm going to take the plunge and order them(I'm going with JL) tomorrow and hopefully will get some info out there as to size, sound, etc. and if they fit some, take some pics/video of the installation... I changed everything as well in my SRT-6 and wow.... definitely huge difference in sound... I have Kenwood in dash with DVD/Nav system, Aline Components with an Alpine 4 channel amp.... If the subs don't fit in the space behind the seat I'm going to buy another set of components and place the mid range speakers where the subs go. Maybe install the tweeters in the dash or if not in a space right behind and between the seat and safety belts and then I'm going with any slim line sub and small but powerful amp... JL, Kicker, Pioneer, Rockford and Kenwood all are making very slim amps and subs to put almost anywhere. Hopefully I'll have more detail and info on my sound system.
