Default Nav radio question

Have 05 LTD with Navigation and have a question. Probably a stupid one at that.

With the Nav CD in, can you also insert a music CD?

Nope. Only one CD at a time.

The NAV radio memorizes a section, or area, at a time so it can still navigate without the nav CD in place for a while. And when you might need the nav CD, you'll only need it in for a few seconds, then you can go back you your music CD. And you can play music while it navigates.

Also, you can add an external CD changer to your system and keep the nav CD in place.

After you get the nav set, you can take out the nav cd and insert a music cd or listen to the radio.

There has been discussion of it many times. If you search you can probably find something, but I think most who are considering upgrading in 2008 are looking towards an MP3, iPod, etc., solution with regard to portable music.

This is probably the wrong thread to post this in, but as far as installing the OEM nav unit, what sort of wire do I need to run to the wheel speed sensor?

As your car is a 2005, it should already be wired. All you should have to do is plug the standard wiring harness into the back of the nav unit. You will need an antenna adapter and a GPS antenna.

Woah. I'm confused now. I have a deal going with a fellow forum member that we're going to exchange head units (non-nav+$ for nav). He is going to include the antenna as well. So what you're saying is that there should already be a wire back there and it's just a matter of connecting it? Could you please elaborate?

If you haven't done so already, check out the nav installation instructions available here. If your Crossfire is a 2005 or above (as your sig says), you shouldn't need to tap the speed sensor or backup signal as shown on pages 5 and 6 of the installation instructions. Your car should already be wired. To be sure, look at the wiring harness that goes to the back of your head unit and compare it to the diagram in step 12 on page 5.

When you say the fellow is going to include the antenna, I presume you mean the GPS antenna. That's good! Many people don't get that because most sellers are unwilling to disassemble the dash to get to the antenna. Otherwise, you'd have to order one from Becker or Chrysler.

The nav unit has a different connector for the AM/FM radio antenna than the non-nav unit. If you're doing a swap, the recipient of your non-nav unit won't need the adapter (it won't fit on the non-nav unit) so be sure he sends it to you. This is part E on page 1 of the installation instructions. If he doesn't have it or won't send it to you, you can't order it from Becker, either. They don't stock it. You can make one by combining two other adapters. You can order an adapter that converts the antenna jack on the back of the nav head unit to a Motorola female from Becker. It's part #1215.663-881 and costs $3.79+S/H. Then, you can order a Euro female to Motorola male adapter from Crutchfield. Combine the two and you effectively have part E.

I hope that helps.

I have a 2005 limited roadster and I had to run the speed sensor wire from the harness to the wheel speed wire at the amp. I have a low build number for a 2005 roadster and maybe the higher build numbers are pre-wired.

What did you use as a connector on the harness side of the wire? The installation instructions show wires with connectors already on them (part J, page 1).

The radio came with the wires w/connectors. I bought the radio new from the dealership 9 months after buying the car so it came with everything I needed. I also got several small european connectors from Becker of North America for extras. Thay are very hard to find.

I called Becker. The part numbers are 5002.607 and 5002.608. They're the same wires with the same connectors but different colors. They cost 87 cents apiece. The shipping is the biggest expense!
