If I could afford an escalade and the gas to run it, I wouldn't be on this site. My 99 f-150 sucks enough gas.

Where did that response come from, and how does it apply to a crossfire.

Lose the factory subs? Depends on how you put in the new ones. You don't have to lose the factory subs if you don't want to.

I left them in.

Wiring out of the factory radio for a new sub isn't really the way to go, and the wiring is a little funky to work with but it probably can be done.

I bet if you took a poll, you'd find that most if not everyone that has subs, is running them out of a replacement radio.

There's a message on here somewhere that has the wiring chart for the factory system that will help you if you decide to tackle it...

If you're checking out subs, don't neglect www.ficaraudio.com you get a LOT more sub for your money with them as they manufacture their own subs (no middle men). I've ran the Qs (12s and 15s) and also heard the BTLs (don't go with these in a crossfire, they are too much IMO).

I agree 100%. I am running Resonant Engineering Subs in my Crossfire (My car is in the Pictures above with the green neon) and FI Audio was started by guys from RE. They are great sounding subs and are very reasonable in price. I have had mine for years (pre buyout by US Amps) and they are built very similar to the FI subs.

I found a box for two tens that will leave enough space, for the misses. Am I going to get raped, if I pay for best buy, to install the headunit, and leave wires to hook up an amp later? what kind of stuff works well, in a small box. Can you make yourself loose focus, do to sound waves on a budget, with 2 10's

FWIW I just installed my sound system. Infinity Kappa door speakers, Infinity 6 channel amp, and a JL Audio 10" W3 sub (originally was planning on an 8" w7) in a build-it-yourself Best Buy sealed box (it just happened to have the correct volume). Holy.... hell. It sounds amazing... WAY louder, and clearer, than my old Rockford Fosgate Punch Stage 2 10" ported box. Plus, it takes up a lot less space... box is only .7 cubic feet.

I.e. if you want to conserve space, consider something along these lines.

My local JL Audio dealer had a sale so the 10" sub was $162. The box was $60. Each sub handles up to 500 watts; I'm pushing 287 and it's plenty loud. That's a total of $222 for a great sounding setup. If you wanted two, I'm sure it would sound even better... just need a bigger amp to be sure.

I'm going to take some pics of my setup and post them here tomorrow.

that's like asking if apples are better than oranges. BUT in my opinion definitely go with FI, the new RE is not known for being very....wallet friendly. I haven't even heard their new stuff but for their prices there's just no way i'd ever care to.

You really can't go wrong with Fi.

Two years ago, I would say RE. Today, I would go with FI. RE was bought by US AMPs and the product is getting a little cheeper made and prices have gone up. FI has all types of Custom options which is nice!

Keep in mind two years ago there was barely any Fi, and when they started is exactly when RE went to the crapper. Even before that they used the XBL^2 technology which may look good on paper but many people hate the way they sound.

Also look in to Ascendant Audio, they're strictly dealer based but made by Fi as well.

I do not think you could go wrong with FI's Q Series . One or two tens would give you more than ample bass and sound good doing it!

Sounds like some useful advice about brands. As far as sound quality - it's interesting there - that is a very personal thing. Depends on your hearing. Depends on your music taste. Depends on what you think sounds good. Even depends on your mood. You could get some opinions from people but your ears are your best judge. Of course it's hard if you can't find a Crossfire near you with the speakers you want to hear, but it's well worth the try. Also remember the head unit feeding that signal can have a lot to do with how it sounds. And if the head unit isn't set up "right", you could think it's the speakers that you don't like when it's the settings on the head unit or the head unit itself. Installation also makes a huge difference.

Unfortunately there's no free advice when it comes to speakers. The companies that make them will all tell you their's sound best. Everyone that has speakers will tell you their's sound best. Neither is objective, nor necessarily shares your budget or taste.

Go find the speakers you're considering, bring along the ears

well FI is located in Nevada and i dont think anyone around kansas has them in there car. especially not the setup that im planning on doing to the car. for you sub woofer experts what is BP and why can you upgrade that on the FI Q? and im also thinking about the subs between the Q and the "extreme" one i think those look nice too. since they have cooling capabilities and that would probably be nice so they dont over heat

Well I looked at a local shop, where they recommended as a more expensive, but much better setup, 1 jl 12w6, in a ported box, powered by a jl hd750/1 amp. speaker around 400, amp 750, and box was 80. Sounds like a decent amount of money, but based on what I expect to get sound wise, should be plenty. I checked online and the prices for the most part are a little high, but as a package deal, would save some money locally. Anyone running a similiar setup. What can I expect to pay for install? 50-60 bucks an hour plus parts? Going to replace the headunit as well, kinda leaning towards the pioneer 6000 with the el display. I have been pleased with their sound, in the past, however I dont like the one big ****. Any suggestions? or thoughts? thanks in advance, chris
