Default alternator rewinding???

How many of you guys have had your alternators rewound for a higher output? with my current stereo setup, I tried a yellow top battery, and it isn't enough. I have never had an alternator worked on, and when the time presents it's self, I guess I'm going to have to do it. My stereo works great, but when the light dim above 2200rpm's, it tells me there is a problem. I would like to think that a cap, will fix it, but I really believe the solution is the alternator. If a reputable shop does the rewinding should I be nervous? Anything to address first. I need to do two of the big three wires still. Should I run a 4 gauge wire from the battery to the distrubution block and then 4 gauge to the alternator? I assume that is where the alternator wire starts. Thanks in advance, chris

Please tell me how many amps you are using???????

I an impressed that the normally functioning alternator cant keep up with your load. As a Ham if I ran a Kilowatt amplifier on a 12 battery, that would only hit about 80 amps on the peaks.

You might want to measure the voltage at the battery and then the amp to see how much is lost in the power wiring.

Be sure that you measure from + to _ on the battery and Amp. I suspect that there in you'll find the lost energy, Woody

just the one amp. A JLHD750/1 600wrms, and one 12W6. I didn't think it would cause that kind of strain on the electrical system but it does. Even with the svr yellow top, the lights seem to strobe with the music. I even try to keep it in gear 4 vs. D, to keep the rpms up. With the old factory battery from 04 it measured 12.4v at rest, 14.4 with the vehicle started, and would dip below 12v with hard beats. I would assume the new one does the same, I haven't checked it out yet. I'm debating an a cap, but not sure what kind or size. I know most say 1farad, per 1000 watts. chris
