Sorry for not getting this up sooner. I plan on posting a few up tomorrow also, along with the paint make and code. It looks really sharp. the model is Alpine CDA-9886M. It matches fairly well it does have a little white on it but not that noticable. I kinda like a little white. Let me know what you think. The pick is from my blackberry but i will take some shots with my slr tomorrow.

I'm not thackstonns, so forgive me for speaking out of turn, but I would imagine he painted the ring around the head unit. Some of the Alpine rings come in black even when the units are silver.

Looks great, btw, thackstonns! Nice unit. I've been looking at the X100M marine unit we've talked about back and forth here for a while. Want that iPod interface. Doesn't seem like anybody's bought and installed one, though.

Thanks for letting me know about patpur. I actually looked before and I could've sworn that was the regular black one. Whoops. I agree on that dial, but I love the screen and the iPod interface is supposed to be dead on.

Thumbs up Re: Alpine head unit install

I thought about the X100M, but I could not bring myself to spend 100 bucks more for a color screen. I hear the ipod works well with it, I dont use an ipod anymore though so for me it was just a difference in the display. I use my a jump drive with it and it works very well. I need to buy the bluetooth though so i can stream from my blackberry to it. Since that is what i use for portable music now. Ipods are great, and I would buy an Iphone, but att just doesnt have any service in Nebraska. ( i work for Alltel)

I painted the trim ring that goes around the radio. The Marine units are white. It is a decent stereo. The sound is alot better than factory. The only problem I have with it is that our cars have powered speakers, and running the sound from the amplified stereo to the amplified speakers I dont have a great volume range. For instance lets say the stereo's volume goes to 30, I have it set at 10 and it would be the same as 30. So really I only have 10 volume levels. Anything else would be to loud for the speakers. I am going to get the new parret bluetooth module for it. It looks like it will be a quick install,
The other thing that I am going to change is how the wires are ran to the glovebox. I am going to drill a hole and put a couple grommets in them. When they are just ran through the super small opening my glovebox looks crooked when closed. The paint was just about dead on though.

it is listed in the thread, and i even took a picture of the cans top. duplicolor Silver charcoal. I picked it up at Advance Auto. I didn't clearcoat it. I sanded it down with 600 wet n dry before paint, because it is so smooth it wont hold paint otherwise. (i actually spent about 30 minutes sanding to make sure i got every cranny.) Then I just shot it. You could clear it, but i think it would be to shiny. The color n gloss match pretty well. Also it is duplicolor so i think its got a certain amount of clear in it. or is an acrylic enamal. Either way no i didnt clear it the gloss matches.

Thanks Thackstonns, your install turned out really well. I think I will be finishing mine up this week with a little silver charcoal, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

What type of harness did you use for your radio? I believe it is an European one, but i am not too sure. Do you have pics of your rewired method since you did not like how the wires ran through your glove box?
