Default Nav Radio

i have had my car for 3 years and never used the nav before.I usually just use my phone instead.Today i figured i would mess with it for the first time.Either i am doing somethihng wrong or this is the worst nav radio i have ever seen.I can only find main roads and i mean main roads.I tried to find my moms address and it wouldnt even find her street and she has been living there for 60+ years. Is this the way these units operate or am i doing something wrong?I have had nav radios in my srt4 and in my jeep and neither one of them have been a problem.

So far I haven't had any no finds with mine, works very well. The speller isn't as intuitive as I would have expected however after reading the manual and putting in "practice destinations, I now find it very easy to use.

you're right, the nav sucks. try being on a one-way street in downtown Toronto, and the ***** in the dash says make a u-turn...which would have put me in the lake. completely useless piece of ****.

The nav is hit or miss depending on the area. For some people it is absolutely terrible, for others it works extremely well.

I was going to rip it out and replace it but haven't had to yet because it works so well in my area; quick re-routs, solid directions, rarely has a mis-hit...not bad. It will get tripped up in areas where construction has happened in the past 4 or 5 years since the map data is old (2004).

That said, I don't know if I'd use it without a backup. If it ever craps out I can just use Google Maps on the iPhone to bail my lost self out. I'd recommend having a similar fallback if this is your only nav option.

Mine works great, until I have to find a road opened after 2004. Then I'm hosed. So I use the TomTom. The only good things about the nav radio is there's no ugly black center "button" and the compass display on the radio face is cool (but that disappears every so often necessitating the reinsertion of the disc.)

This radio is not a selling feature. But now that Kelly Blue Book shows the trade-in value of my 05 coupe as $9500 I can't afford to sell it anyhow.

Like Philly says, the thing is hit or miss ... just depends upon your location. Some map areas are complete and some are blank altogether. I've ended up in some hilarious spots using the thing, but, hey, it tries its heart out and it's using old data.

I carry a back up if I'm serious about going somewhere. It's an ancient thing called a MAP.

I just enjoy the unit because it is so novel. There's a lot of stuff crammed in that little Infinity box. And it is most enjoyable programmed to run in metric with that sexy British female voice.

Enjoy.

First, I enjoy it because of the novelty as well.

Second, HOW DID I MISS THIS? I saw your post and grabbed the manual. Choose the "English GB" or some such language option, and she went British on me!!!!

The boss at work saw me in my blue cap, sunglasses, bushy mustache and red convertible and said, "Maybe Magnum, PI wasn't cancelled after all"....

So I was having enough fun with the car before finding out about THIS.

The layers of fun and enjoyable experiences seem to be getting deeper as time goes by. Never the case before - with any OTHER Jeep/Car/Truck.
