Default Does anyone know of a place that will convert stock radios?

This is kind of an odd question, but after looking for a good head unit for my car for the past year I am still yet to find one that suits me. So I have deicide to try finding a place that will basicaly gut my current radio or one like it and convert it to include a usb/ipod jack and CF card. A buddy of mine had something similar to the radio in his 68 charger but that was a much easier conversion, and the place only does older radios. Please PM me or post here if you know of anywhere.

Is the purpose of this to keep the factory look? If so, just hack off the faceplate (there's a few pictures in somebody's gallery here showing it) and make a false front for a new system.

From an economic standpoint, gutting your current radio is not feasible. If it's a cost-no-object exercise, there's probably somebody willing to take your money but you will find it a lot easier to just get a stereo with the features you want. Cheaper/Fast/Better all in one swipe...

That's a pretty cool idea, but not something I am not willing to do. I don't need to leave it stock. I'm just looking for something that will look decent and has all the functions I am looking for.

They're not my pictures - they're in the user gallery and I saved them.

Here's the gallery

I'm pretty sure I mentioned them in the original post. I am looking for something with USB or I pod connection, possible CF capable and now am also looking for HD radio. I don't need a CD player because I don't carry CDs with me.

I was looking at the CD-less Alpines. The marine model matches well but is very pricey. I went with the JVC KD-S100 which was $129 delivered from Crutchfied. It has an SD slot in the head unit, can use the iPod adapter, has an aux in on the back and a USB in the front. It can read a flash drive via the USB. Not sure about the HD radio. Does have a redundant CD player which I dont use either.

You could use a thumb drive that reads CF cards to utilize the USB. I am using one to read SD cards bigger than the 512MB that the internal slot supports. I also have a micro SD reader that lets me use micro SD cards like my phone uses. They are cheap and plentiful. Here are links:

JVC KD-S100 CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

Newegg.com - Kingston FCR-MRB 1 card USB 2.0 MicroSD Reader - Card Readers

I looked at all the marine stuff too. The JVC that you have has been at the top of my list for awhile. Do you have any pictures of the JVC installed so I can see what it looks like in the car? I would also like to see pics of some of the head units others have put in their car. I will start an album for it so people can just stop by here and look. If you cant post you can email them to me at LNRDR@yahoo.com
