Noise coming from Stereo on startup
Hey i'm a newbie to the site......Only had ma Roadster for a week now.......I LOVE it......
One question I do have is that when I start the car the stereo comes on it flashes up TELEPHONE and BEEEEEPS for couple seconds then goes onto the radio.....
Is there any way of stopping this noise???
Also when I have been playing a CD before I switch the engine off, the next time I start up the stereo makes a crazy static noise at whatever volume I had the stereo at before....
Any way of stopping this noise too????
Thanks to anybody who helps me out......

Welcome to the forum!
I cannot help you with these problems, There is a section in the owners manual about the phone answering function. perhaps you can find info here, if you do not have the owners manual

Well, I'v been repairing electronic equipment for 29 years and own, well, my sigline tells you that I own an XF capable of telephone interface too! Let's see what I can come up with.
I have never tried to interface a telephone to my sound system, but it SEEMS to me that the sound system is powering up either with the idea it has a phone connected OR in a mode where it's looking for the phone and not finding it.
PROBLEM: In my owner's manual, it TALKS about the phone interface, but tells me NOTHING about how to connect the phone to the radio, so I can't tell you where to look to see if an interface cable has been left plugged in - which COULD give the radio the idea it has a phone connected.
IDEA ONE: There is a cable plugged in, left over from a previous owner's phone, that is telling the radio to expect a phone and the radio is TRYING to tell you that it expects a phone but cant find it! If I can find where this plugs in, I'll tell you and you can look and see if it's there!
ANOTHER IDEA: Perhaps there is a menu option in the radio that is turned on (making the radio expect a phone) that can be turned off.
Sadly, I don't know what manual(s) to look in to find answers to these questions, as I am a new owner with the usual owner's manuals and a downloaded service manual (that I have not been able to find this in, I was thinking of connecting a weather radio to this input, but again, have not really attacked the project full force).
Gimme a day or two to look thru the service manual and see if I can find anything.
Or.... as is often the case, within 24 hours, SOMEONE is gonna jump in here and tell you how THEY solved the same problem!

The manuals did me no good, I see nothing mentioned abotu how to add the telephone interface, no inputs in the diagrams that are associated with a telephone interface, etc.
I give up - seems like the telephone interface is an undocumented item. How do you work on something that is not documented?
(And I ASSUME you are using the stock Navigation radio, as the post above points out.)

Thanks to all who replied with possible solutions.......
I will maybe try take stereo out and see if there is a TELEPHONE cable or something attached from previous owner, like Pizzaguy suggested......Just need to go get the pins to remove the stereo.....
I have the standard stock INFINITY radio/CD......*Not the NAV version
Nothing in the manual about TELEPHONE system on the stereo

It was my understanding that ONLY the NAV version supported telephone interface... can't remember where I read that. But if you are seeing "TELEPHONE" in the display, then I must be wrong!
I am thinking I will probably have to go buy some stereo removal keys to check for any wires still attached from previous owner....
I definetly have the STOCK INFINITY RADIO/CD......
I have been through all menus possible and have changed as many of the phone settings in the stereo and still no difference......
Bit of a pain that the stereo has a PHONE option but no mention of anything about it in the manual......

I haven't even FOUND the phone settings in mine - I'll go looking tonight, now, after reading this.
(ANd probably screw it up and be sorry .... but that's how I learn.)

Pizzaguy, On the front of the stereo there is a button marked TP and if pressed gives u choice of TP ON, OFF or MUTE
Also in the user memory settings there is an option to change what the stereo does when a call comes in on the phone attached....either MUTE the radio or come through the radio.
It is just so annoying as the CROSSFIRE has a great sound on start up and this is ruined by the BLEEEEPING and STATIC sound coming from stereo. Even if a remember to turn the volume down before a leave car, it just cancels the STATIC noise but the BEEEEPING is still full blast, lol

I am not home, but I SWEAR my "TP" button is not labelled "TP". I'll be home in two hours and will look!
(I also have no AM or FM buttons, have only one RAD button 'cause the right-most button is NAV - the differneces between NAV and nonNAV units.)
If I go home and find the leftmost button "TP", I'm gonna hit myself in the head.'
Ok, mine is C/C and I can't remember what it does. But "TP" isn't telephone, is it? I see FP is about to post, so I'll wait for him to tell us!

Come on, pizzaguy. You can do it. Twenty-nine years and you can't figure this out?
Probaly gonna' need to take the head unit out and see what's been hooked up to the back of thing, so somewhere in the club, on one of the threads, we have a 'pass-it-along' set of face plate keys.
Does anybody know who has them?
Come on, pizzaguy. Use your noodle, baby. We know you can do it. rah, rah, rah

That would be great if someone got a "pass a round" pair of removal keys......
Give a newbie a break and help me out here, lol.....
I will probably have to go to local stereo place and beg/plead/cry for them to remove the stereo....NO CHARGE of course......

If I DO figure this out, I'm gonna use the knowledge to add a weather radio input to my system! I miss not having NOAA weather when I am driving. I can hide the receiver under the passenger seat and tack the antenna up on the windscreen.
Then I just set the menu option for "phone" to listen to NOAA.
Wish his car was HERE, I'd like to LOOK at it and get to the bottom of it. (Not too good at fixin stuff that isn't right in front of me - I'd been useless when Apollo 13 was in trouble.)

if its the same noise mine makes sometimes (weird noise usually when its trying to load a CD) then a quick punch to the stereo unit usually fixes mine... (not a real fix i know, but it works for the moment on mine)
only thing keeping me from replacing the CD player is the fact that its a infinity...

Thanks Lennex3 for that advice......think will pass....Lol....Its not that noise or problem anyway.
I ordered a set of keys to remove the stereo and see if anything still attached.
Will let you all know as soon as a get them and have a look

Hey all,
I got the removal keys today and got the stereo out.
Attached to the back was a huge Handsfree Kit Box.
I disconnected this and all the wiring for it and tried the stereo again.....
NO BLEEEEEEPPPING on startup or STATIC NOISE either with CD player....
Thank god thats it sorted cos was becoming a pain in the a$%e

Let me just say I wish I'd been there to see this. I want to rig up an input to mine for a weather radio so I can put NOAA weather thru the system when traveling.
The answer to how to do it was contained in your console!!! At least NOW I know I CAN do it - just gotta get the removal keys and get in there and start playing around!
Glad you got to the bottom of this!
