Updated Crossfire GPS Disks
Since the GPS disks that came with all of the Crossfire Navigation Radios are dated May, 2004, and will NEVER be updated by Chrysler because Corporate Chrysler has no idea who is even in charge of that department. NavTech (now NavTeq) is unable to produce any of their usual yearly updates because Chrysler retained the permission to update the Crossfire disks.
Navteq told me that that they believed that the GPS radios most similar to the Crossfire ones were in the 2005 - 2008 SLK Mercedes that were produced 1 row over at the Karmann factory in Germany. Apparently the SLK had a CD player in the dash and a connecting DVD player in the trunk. The SLK GPS system operated utilizing a single DVD placed in the trunk. The data is in the .DB extension format used by NavTeq in both the SLK and Crossfire. The Mercedes DVD disk contains GPS info for the entire United States and Canada, extending from Alaska and Hawaii down to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. This DVD is dated September, 2009, and will be produced yearly into the foreseeable future.
Does anyone on this forum have the technical computer skills to separate the Mercedes .DB data files into separate updated .DB East and West US files that could be placed on updated CD disks for the Crossfire? If a person studies the file content of both the Mercedes and Crossfire GPS disks, the similarity of the geographical data files (3 separate ones on the Mercedes disk) is apparent. The specific car and radio GPS fies are separate and are very obvious. This DVD contains too much data for one CD. If anyone has the skills necessary, I can transmit the files free for study. This DVD costs $ 281. Also, this forum has a link to the Crossfire East and West disk contents for downloading, in case anyone wishes to study them.
Certainly some roads have changed in the U.S. in 5 years!

I have all of the Mercedes GPS DVD files packaged in WinRAR format for transmission in under 100 MB parts. (Total of 23 parts.) If anyone feels that they have the .DB file converting capability, please send me an email request. The May 2004 Crossfire East and West GPS disk contents should first be studied for the sake of comparison.

I can only wonder what the cost would be, not cheap I bet, which is a pity because I am.
Anyway seeing the words "OFF ROAD" makes me feel adventuresome.
After seeing the GPS unit in my buddies Land Rover, I think I can skip any upgrades in the Crossfire.

anything's better than TomTom ... sending you back and forth in the middle of your journey ... once with Neverlost in a 'Vette I rented from Hertz a couple of years ago, and on a fool's errand I did a few weeks back with a TomTom XL I got as an Xmas gift
Could it be the link below?

This navigation unit looks oddly familiar. I wonder if those navigation discs would work in the
Crossfire?
If they did, being from a Ferrari 612, it would cost a couple of thousand dollars.
Crossfire?
Check them out. They made the radio for the Crossfire. They also made all most the same unit for MB and others. Same as the Trafic Pro.

I didn't have the nav in mine when i took it out, but in my jeep, i had a factory nav put in that i bought off of ebay, called the RB4. The updates for this are east-west disks, i wonder if they work, if i could find a trusty feller that would like to try em, they are fall of 06. thats about as new as they get, and i dont think they make em anymore. the features of that rb4 show similar info as the xf's.
Harman/Becker Automotive Sytems - RB4 - Dodge Ram
but for the sake of being logical, go out and by a garmin and spend the extra 100 to get lifetime updates

If it works you would be a hero in this community.
Your name would be entered in the Crossfire Hall of Fame.
