As many times as I've seen "Dissapointing" in refernce to the nav unit.. is it really worth dealing with outside of a "novelty" item? Had considered upgrading my 04, but like I said...

They work quite well I found, You will go the way things were when they were programmed but I like going down those old native Indian trails. Four wheel drive would be useful though.
LOL

Nope, MrMiata, nothing about the factory Nav system to induce anyone to dig into a car which didn't have one from Karmann to 'upgrade!' Much more practical to get an up-to-date stand-alone (or smartphone app) GPS with color maps, loads more options, AND current data!

But since my car already has the factory unit (and wiring including the special antenna required for GPS - under the instrument panel, I think?), and it works, why not give it the best information to work from? That is my rationale. Particularly if rar0 or someone can share newer data at such a good price.

Yep, besides antiquity of map and POI data noted by 180, the user interface is quite 90's - or maybe 1980's original PC. Black text (with a few primitive icons of no particular value) on a green background.

Again, nothing to commend it versus a newer touchscreen GPS unit. Just that it is (in my car) 'there.'

Oh I can understand the desire to update your existing.. And thanks for confirming it really wouldn't be worth the effort involved. "Kicked" it around due to the ability to interface an ipod along with it.. but the scosche fm transmitter gets me there way under the 150 more or less bucks to "upgrade". Not high quality but gives me some "oldie" options.. lol
