Default Securing Sub Enclosure

Hello all I have been planning my audio build and doing lots of reading on this forum over the past couple months. I want to thank everybody for all the useful information that has helped me thus far.

So I've got pretty much everything figured out except how to secure the sub woofer enclosure in the trunk. The box is a 1 cubic foot sealed enclosure for a single 10. I plan on putting the box up against the hump, firing upwards or towards the rear, whichever sounds better. Now I've got 2 ideas on how to go about doing this...

1. Cut out MDF or ply wood etc. the shape of the trunk, put it under the carpet and mount the enclosure to this. This would prevent the enclosure from sliding around but it would still allow for the enclosure to move, even if it is ever so slightly, when a bump in the road is encountered. Even a small movement of the box has an effect on the bass output.

2. Drill a hole straight into the body of the car, that would be towards the front floor area of the trunk. This would allow for the best possible way to secure the enclosure. Is there anything under this area that I should be worried about if I decide to go this route? Besides the obvious dilemma of possibly drilling into something sensitive down there, there would be the possibility of some rust issues but I would take some preventative measures if I decide to do it this way.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Also any suggestions of another method are certainly welcome.

Bonus Question: Planning on mounting the amplifiers on the hump itself. Planning on putting MDF between the metal cage and the gas tank, and then mounting the amplifiers on the outside, drilling through the carpet and cage. Is there anything wrong with this idea or a better way to do it?

Thanks in advance for any input.

CAREFUL! The fuel tank is behind that partition from front to back (bulkhead). Can't you just velcro the thing to the carpet?

Thanks for idea but I think velcro is the worst possible option . It would prevent the box from sliding around but it would allow shifting/vibration due to the imperfections on the road and would decrease the bass output. I would rather opt for the MDF/plywood under the carpet and mount to that.

Now I realize the gas tank is in the hump/wall or whatever you want to call it. I was talking about the front half of the floor of the trunk. You know when you lift up the carpet, the rear half is Styrofoam material with the jack, air pump etc. and the front half is just metal covered by a thin sheet of something. I would like to drill into that metal towards the front of the trunk floor.

Ahhhh, ok, I was in the wrong place. I don't know whats there but it should be pretty easy to get under the rear and look whats there forward of that large bin below the carpet where the styrofoam is. Good luck!
