Over the past two weeks, my alarm has been going off at an increasing rate (I also have a Python aftermarket alarm that goes off the same signals as the factor alarm).

Today, it keeps going off every 3 minutes or so, so I have pulled the #9 fuse to make it stop. Everytime the alarm goes off, it is showing up as a hood issue on my Python key fob.

I have checked the service manual and it appears that you cannot replace the hood ajar switch - you have to replace the entire hood latch assembly. Not sure how much that costs, but probably a lot - so.... Does anyone know of anything else it might be besides the hood latch assembly?

Before you jump to conclusions that it is the hood, know that the installer may be feeding the output of the factory system to trigger the aftermarket alram or share a single trigger wire that is tied into the aftermarket alarms hood input. This is very common for installers to take the quick way out during an install. Second I have looked on my SRT and I have yet to find an electrical conection at the latch or another switch. My guess is that is one of the many left overs from the SLK where MB had a light under the hood.

 

Look harder.

 

My alarm trigger issue was just solved I hope. Dealer scan found the glove box to be the issue. The design of the switch uses a relay and it was not functioning properly 25 bucks and in a few days I should be back in business...

 

I pulled the hood latch assembly yesterday and there is definitely a sensor attached. I cleaned the connections with a q-tip but it still keeps throwing a hood alarm.

Does anybody know 1) whether it could be the factory Skreem unit rather than the hood sensor; and 2) if not, the part number or where to get the hood latch assembly?

Check the simple things first.

If you can see what triggers the switch, then you could trigger the switch with the hood open, push the trigger and then lock the car with the fob. Do you still have the code after you have done this?

You should test the switch to see if it is normally open or closed with a test light or buzzer. If you get a yes and no answer then the switch is OK. If there is no difference with the switch pressed or unpressed the switch will be at fault.
