Default Crossfire Ignition Problem

Recently my 2005 roadster's ignition totally locked up in the off position. For the previous year it would occasionally stick a little. I just thought it would not get any worse , but it did. I was stranded in a shopping center parking lot. Cost at dealership , $1,600 for new ignition.....I have seen many Crossfire owners reports of similar problems on internet....I have filed a report with the Nat'l Highway Transportation Saftey Assoc.....Maybe if those of you that have experienced this problem join in and file an online report with the " NHTSA " , we can get a recall....Fastrg

You could have fixed it for nothing by following the instructions on this forum, too late now though. Your new unit could do the same thing again next year.
You could do the fix before it gives you trouble though.

My 2005 coupe has been getting worse for a few months - called the dealer they say they see this a lot -
good news: they have the parts - it used to be such a common problem it was hard to get them
bad news: $1000 to repair and it will leave you stranded.

You got off cheaper than I did Melissa. My Chrysler dealership said they had to orderthe parts. They said they had the correct software, enabling me to keep my old keys. Melissa , go to the NHTSA web site & fill out an on line report....FAST

You can fix it for nothing if you do it yourself.

If you know anyone that has experienced the same problem (STEERING WHEEL/IGNOTION LOCK UP) encourage them to report it to NHTSA or post here. I am meeting with SAN/SEMA groups in DC Thursday to discuss similar issues. Located these additional/identical complaints:

I had this problem the other day, and left me stranded during my lunch break. Went and bought a 20V drill and a 1/4" bit and fixed it wasn't too hard.

Another Crossfire owner has entered his name & Crossfire , about the "Ignition Problem" , to the growing list being forwarded to the NHTSA. He is from Jeffersonville Indiana. Any one having or have had this problem needs to go to the NHTSA web site & fill out a form....Tks
