Default Nav Unit Aux In

I have searched and searched but have not found a clear answer to my question. I would like a device that connects to the back of the nav unit, tricking it into thinking a CD changer is installed, and serves as a direct-in to the unit. Not interested in integration (I don't like the 99 song playlist thing with the popular integration unit) and don't mind controlling the tracks from my iPod itself. I would, however, like for it to charge. Could someone please direct me? Thanks!

No, I don't want the iPod integration, just a direct in. The business of organizing the playlists by 99 songs a piece is a turn off--I like to leave it on shuffle. Thanks anyway!

The only actual audio in, is the (old school) mono mobile phone takeover function. You can send mono audio to the back panel of the head and pull a line to ground - the unit will mute CD/Radio audio and put your mono audio in the left side speakers only.

I use this function at the Dragon to cause my FRS radio to mute the car's system so I can hear the FRS radio clearly and loudly.

But unless you buy Rudy's product, you better be good enough to work up your own interface like he did! 'Cause there IS no other "Aux Input".

I see on the device that there is an line-in function via 3.5mm plug. Is there not an option to merely run audio through this system using this route, just from the iPod cable?

It's outlined in the thread you referenced a number of times. On page 15, you can clearly see in the DIY photos that the member installed a 3.5mm jack in his console that connected to the unit.

I was riding in a friend's new Hyundai last night and noticed her iPod cord was strange--it had a dock connector on one end and a 3.5mm jack and USB on the other (I assume using the USB to power and integrate, and the 3.5 to run the audio). Got me to thinking if something similar could be used on the unit to achieve what I'm looking for.

Oh, ok. Didn't realize you had read that thread.

It is now time for you to talk to, either someone who has bought one of these, or to Rudy himself.

PM rcompart with questions 'cause I never bought one of his kits ... he can answer any question you have.
