Device mounting
Hello,
I have run through a few options trying to get the best mounting for my iPhone 6.
( props to this thread for giving me a start: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...od-mounts.html)
I tried a couple of mount options:
1) PanaVise Indash (75104-804)
2) Pro.fit Vehicle Specific Mount (CH-52-04-L)
Then tried these holders with each mount:
3) PanaVise Portagrip with T Button Tipper/ Adj wheel (15585 )
4) Ram Mount X-Grip Universal (RAM-HOL-UN7BU)
And used these extension arms also:
5) Long Ram Arm (RAM-B-103U) and Ram AMPS Ball Base (RAM-B-347U)
6) Short Ram Arm (RAP-B-201U-A) and Ram AMPS Ball Base (RAM-B-347U)
(these Ram options are nice as it allows the device unlimited angle adjustments, so as to allow the passenger to view a movie for example)
Through much mix and matching, I found the following:
#1 has the cleanest look installed, however it has too much flex to keep the device steady while driving.
#2 also has some flex, but can be wedged to eliminate it
#3 by itself on the mounts is too close to and blocks the controls (HVAC/Audio)
#4 is good but takes two hands to load the device
#5 is too long IMO
So the final verdict is #2 with some rubber chair leg protectors on the back to wedge from flexing and to keep it from rubbing the dash plastic. This is then connected to #4 with #6.
-Pro.fit CH-52-04-L
-Ram RAP-B-201U-A
-Ram RAM-B-347U
-Ram RMA-HOL-UN7BU
-Two self adhesive rubber anti skid pads from any hardware (black or silver)
#1/ 4/ 5 combo: [Too much flex/vibration on the road]

#2/ 4/ 6 Combo [Final choice]

Am curious: if you have the stock radio, what do you connect the iPhone to ?
I now have a Samsung Galaxy S3 which is about the same size and it makes a BlueTooth connection to the Clarion M303 in the dash for "hands free". I also have a suction cup mount on the glovebox (Aluminum plate looped over glove box door. Round black thingie on far right is the suction cup mount. Have had it stay in place for over a month) for an 8" tablet but find I rarely use that since buying the S3.
Mount (Mountek nGroove Universal CD Slot Mount) is designed for a CD slot but I have it in the dash gap above the radio so it does not obscure the radio dial.

The phone will sync and charge via a front USB port or stream BT.
Got an iPod® or iPhone®? You can plug your player into the front-panel USB input to access your playlists. Dedicated "search" and "return" buttons, plus handy tools like AppMode, Alphabet, Percentage Skip, and Related Search, help you find your music fast. If you have an compatible iPhone, you can take advantage of convenient Siri® Eyes Free functionality.
Kenwood looks like a really nice unit that can match the dash illumination. Do you also have on order the special plug, antenna adapter, and keys to remove the stock radio ?
There is a long thread on installing a different radio that lists all of those extras.
Took me a couple of hours to install the Clarion M303 but everything works just fine. Now have also updated my 90 vert with a 702 (black dash, green illumination) so the buttons are the same.
Both of the Clarions are less expensive on Amazon than when I bought them.
BTW I use a really short (manual trans) in the cigarette lighter. Many devices that have an USB input only provide 500 ma.

Thanks for the USB link. Tools/adapters in the mail with receiver. I have read through the sticky and a couple other install threads. Have Infinity w/o Nav. Hopefully will go smoothly. Will post when done.
