Hi I'm new on here and have searched and searched and have had no use finding a solution to my problem. I have a 2004 limited edition crossfire. It came with an aftermarket Kenwood KMR-D562BT stereo and is hooked to the stock amp which powers the front and rear speakers. I am trying to install a new stereo to add a 10" subwoofer in the back just for some more bass. I have installed many stereos before. I ran my rca cables from the SW RCA slot on the head unit to the amp, I ran the ignition/remote wire to the amp, power from the battery with a fuse, and grounded it. The amp turns on fine and I have speaker wire for the sub. Everything is hooked up and connected to the best of my knowledge. The problem I'm having is that the sub I added is not working. I've tested and know it is not faulty but I have no idea why it won't turn on. Do I have to piggy back of the stock amp, can I even add this extra amp? What's the problem I'm not seeing here?

 

I have an amplified bass cannon in my trunk.. rca subwoofer out to unit... . Basically mine is all in one.. yours is amp and speaker separate .. Mine works fine this way. (totally bypasses the OEM amp)..

It's grounded good I found the problem. It's just a faulty amp thanks for the reply though

 

Do you have to "Activate" or turn ON the SW out? I do on my Pioneer HU.

Yes I did all that I tested the amp in a friends vehicle and discovered that the amp was the problem

 

Actually, the stock amp probably is not faulty. That Kenwood unit only has 2.5 volts output, which is not adequate to drive the stock amplifier. I guess if you want to keep that head unit, you would need to buy a new amp.

 

Crap. We knew that, bud. Sorry. It makes the selection of the HU a bit narrower.

My Pioneer is 2.8V. But I planned from the start to install a separate rear SW amp. Works great.

 

I have got to quit the drugs.. could have sworn we were talking an aftermarket amp here for an add on subwoofer..

I guess I missed the part about the separate amp for the subwoofer. I think was reading the original post when I was half asleep.

 

He didn't, it seems, have enough preamp power (2.4V) output from his new HU to make the OEM amp drive he OEM subs to an acceptable level.
I bypassed that issue by installing an amp, located under the passenger seat, that runs the subs separately. My OEM amp runs the door speakers only.

Are we clear on that? Do I have to drag out the chalkboard?
