Why does there seem to be several different part numbers for the Crossfire ECU ,

Hi Maggy. The first number you listed, in multiple listings, list it as an Electronic Control Unit (ECU). It was listed with a few details (like) they need your old module and the key, to program. Now given this, I suspect THAT ecu is a skeerm module. Finding those differing descriptions on the first part number, I did not look up the other numbers. If I were you, I would download the various PARTS listings (with actual numbers) in the documents listing (by 180). It seems the term ECU means more than just one module, hence different part numbers. It is quite the quagmire, isn't it? That's why I think you should get those parts listings.

I would suspect a different ECU is required for the NA, SRT, and convertibles of both models.. Also overseas models may differ as well.

 

Yeah, I agree in totality (as in 100%, 180). Until and unless research is done (with a varied cross-reference) I would be suspect of vague descriptions and just check a few various sources making sure of what you need and if the replacement IS what you need. Old saying, experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted (and when it comes to part numbers and sellers descriptions, triple the research or you may be stuck with an apple when you wanted to an orange). Good luck finding your correct WORKING part Maggy! BTW, am very impressed in your desire to know all about your car! I can relate with your curiosity and desire to know everything you can!

If buying off eBay, check the picture that shows the actual item WITH a readable part number on it !

This number ( A 112 153 76 79 ) doesn't even come up in a yahoo/bing search... Fleabay has then listed, with the firmware version earlier than your picture (which I guess is week/year of firmware release). Baffling here!

Did you look up your part number in the parts manual, for the car it goes into? Just curious. With all those numbers, I would make sure whatever module you get, it is the same number that came out of yours. Since there are so many numbers out there, I am not at all sure they are all interchangeable (plug n play). Also have to step aside, as to it being programmed or not into your vehicle. In the 08 parts manual, there is only one number ( 68027422AB ), for the powertrain control module.
