Default Double Din Project

UPDATE 06-26-2015

PROJECT FINALLY DONE !

- 2005 SRT-6 AeroBlue
- Nexus 7 2013 Wifi Tablet
- Backup Camera, Display when Reverse shifted
- Sound Wired to car speakers
- Mobile Hotspot to share 4G to Tablet via Wifi
- USB Hub to add other devices
- Bluetooth Control for Music
- Start when car ON and Stop when car OFF
- OBDII bluetooth connector to use with Torque PRO
And last but not the least:
- Tablet is removable anytime by sliding it. So I can bring it home to make updates

The only problem remaining is to bring the rearview camera cable from the trunk to the center console in a hidden way

Here are the pictures:

Little bonus, when I shutdown the car

--------------

Hello all,

I am on a project of installing a double din solution on my Crossfire SRT-6 Aero Blue

Right now I have trouble with 2 thing:

- Installing the RearView Camera
- Adding a power source by adding wire circuit from the fusebox to the inside of the car

My questions are:

1 - How to pass the cables of the rearview camera from the license plate to the inside of the trunk ? I checked and I did not see an easy way to do it
DONE

2 - How to pass cables from the underhood fusebox to inside the dash bezel
I changed my mind, and will take the power directly from the ACC wire from the stock harness

3 - How to plug RCAs cable to the stock harness ?
I am looking to plug a USB DAC (
USB DAC USB DAC
) directly to the stock harness to output the sound of the tablet to the AMP
Any guidance ?

Its a very exciting project and the first one on my Crossfire, so I dont want to mess up

Thanks you guys

When the project will be done I will post pictures for sure

I can probably help with #2 : remove the battery and battery tray, you will see a pass-thru grommet that you can use.

as to #1, some have said that centered behind the tag is a hole that is sometimes covered with painted metallic tape.

Hey thanks for your messahe

Just a question about this "pass-thru"

DO you know where its ending ? I mean will I need to unmount a lot of interior part to get the cable back from the pass-thru ?

Thanks man, I appreciate

I updated the first post, I did the backup camera wiring

I would appreciate some guidance on how to plug RCA cables to the stock harness to output the sound directly to the amp without accessing it

What do you think about that ?

Here is a diagram to explain what I want to do (clickable image)

I still have hope for this one

Do you think I can wire a stereo (2 RCA output) to the harness ?

You mean one of these?? And if you do... hope you are pushing 4V at the output.. or your not going to like the result.

Nope the question is the opposite

Can I plug the 2 outputs from the DAC to the Harness.
The DAC has 2 outputs (L and R) but the Harness has 4 (Left and Right for Front and Rear)

The "diagram" on my post tried to explain it

The harness has 4 RCA connectors - OEM amp only uses the "front" channel since there is no "front-rear" fader on OEM head units. I've got one in my parts stash (adapter) and I'd bet where the other two RCA plugs go into the connector there is no corresponding wiring in the cars harness connector. Seems to me if you had a 4 channel setup.. that DAC unit is only going to play out of the front or rears only.. not both..

OEM amp is 4 channel - but the inputs at the amp end merely split the front channel L/R to feed front and rear speakers.

Ok so you are telling me I should only plug the DAC to the FRONT Speakers input in the Harness

I gonna try that, I hope the sound gonna be good tho

Ok I tried today

I cut one end of the RCA wires and plugged them to the Harness using a wire crimp

I plugged to :
- White/White and Black
- Gray/Gray and Black

Based on this schema

But I got no sound on the speakers at all.
Maybe I forgot something ?

If you have the amp on the passenger side then you need the blue #5 to turn it on.

Thats a great catch !

But what should I plug into the #5 blue/white ? (what kind of source is it expecting)

I looked online and I guess the #5 need a 12v input, only the positive wire ? Am I Right ?

There is no kind of Double Din kit unfortunately

You have to make it yourself or pay a car audio shop to do it

I've just completed a Double Din Install on my 2005 roadster. What a project. Go for it if you have free evenings for 2 months. I posed the pics in Photos.

Mounted the camera on the desk lid and ran the cable through the flex cable be careful when doing it this way. I accidentilly drilled through the rod from the air pressure lock (lucky to find a replacement on eBay/new was $350 from the dealer) . If you have questions I can walk you through them. I ran into every snag imaginable

Is the audio shop going to fabricate all of the parts? It's not a big job but it sure does consume a lot of time with respect to finishing. I had to pull all of the console parts sand and paint them all to match.

Which head unit did you select?

I went with Kenwood DNX 771HD for nav, rear camera, xm, HDMI and Bluetooth. HERES. Tip if hooking up the HDMI just ground it to complete the circuit. Don't wire it to the parking break. If you wire it to the break, you'll only be able to use it when stopped and the brake engaged.

Btw you can also split the rear speakers from the front, there are lots of threads in the forum as to how to do this.

If hooking up the rear camera let me know and I'll tell you where the wire is located just outside the shifter
