upgaded to Alpine 9855 w/IPOD
The roadster doesn't have room for a fart let alone a selection of music, so it gave me reason to upgrade the sound system. I went with the Alpine CDA-9855 with the KCA-420i behind the glove box. This allows me to put 30 Gb of music in the glovebox. I believe that even the base coupe has an amplifier as I get a lot of distortion in proportion to the volume of music. What this means is that I will just run direct wires from the head unit to the existing speakers. The 9855 has a built in crossover, so I will make the tweeters the front, the 6 1/2's the rears, and a little something brewing in my garage the subwoofers (3 x 8" subs in a sealed enclosure below the convertible area in the trunk). This will allow me to slope the music to my tastes and maximize the use of the existing speakers.
Initial impression is good albeit the IPOD is not as intuitive as I would like it to be (maybe I am to old LOL). Once I mastered the play lists (along with the 20+ hours of burning 300 CD's...) everything went very smoothly. My only complaint thus far is that the faceplate is hard to read with the top down during daylight.
I did not post pics because it looks just like the one on the alpine-usa web site...maybe I will get motivated later and post some up.
