I have both, and im seriously dissatisfied with the reception of the Sirius. In Memphis Tennessee, the sirius drops under almost every bridge and behind every tree you come across. The XM is flawless in every way, even working inside the garage and house with no extended antenna.
My wife's Murano has Sirius and she really gets pissed when we go under a short bridge and it drops out...

I chose Sirius for one reason. Lifetime subscription. I have a loathing for monthly payments that borders on unreasonable. I have listened to XM in a friends car and the service is comparable. I have about another year before the total monthly subscription cost would have exceeded the cost of lifetime service.

Cool... how much does a lifetime sub cost?

A lifetime sub is 500 dollars. A bitter pill to swallow, but at least I feel like I own rather than rent the service.

watch out for fine print. the $500 lifetime is good for one radio only. if you want to upgrade radios, you have to pay $75 extra to 'transfer' the subscription status. and that only works two or three times.

FWIW, $500 is ~ 3.5 years worth of service.

I recently rented (from Avis) a Buick LeSabre (Christ, what a piece of junk!) to drive on vacation. It had the OEM Buick radio/XM receiver in it.

After spending a week with the XM in the Buick and comparing it to the Sirius in my 300C, I have no idea why anyone would ask such a question. Sirius wins handily. The programming is better. The sound is much better (granted, this was an apples-to-oranges comparison which, therefore, has little useful value). And, the reception in general is much better.

Perhaps the sports coverage might be better...or not. I have no idea, as I don't listen to sports in the car...or on the radio at any time or place. This might be the only possible saving grace for XM.

But...I doubt it.

XM only because that's what I have. I think you need to look at content. ALSO FYI do not bring portable satellite radios on a cruise ship... I work on a ship and bought one to see if it works and it kind of worked in bermuda but not in the caribbean at all. I ended up giving it to my dad for his harley and since we have XM there and in his car I got it in my xfire as well.

Well, now, along with Howard Stern, Sirius has the Playboy Channel. You can activate or deactivate it on line, depending on if you want it or not.

Giggity, Giggity, Giggity... all right!

I own Sirius and no problems - I don't leave home without it.

Sirius.
The deciding point for me was NBA, NFL, and NHL on Sirius.
I'm a Michigander by birth and now live in North Idaho, gotta get my
Pistons, Red Wings and Lions fix.

P.S. I already know the Lions stink, no need to remind me!

Umm... XM and GM have no affiliation other than having two-letter names that end with "M".

I thought GM owns Delphi, and since Delphi manufactuers XM radios I just put two and two together. I do know Delphi supplies GM with parts, so there is a relatsionship between GM and XM. Therefore I will not buy anything related to GM.
If XM is not a GM company, then why are XM radios only offered in every company vehicle GM owns. No other car manufactuer that I know of offers XM in their vehicles.

I own several sirius systems, and they are all the Bees Knees!!! Though I have to say Howard Stern has lost his appeal. I've been a fan of his since I was 9 yrs old, but lately he's just boring. Not to mention his shows are becoming very homosexual, I think he's trying too hard to shock people now that I just lost interest. Otherwise I love sirius, They just added the Playboy channel the other day too, wooohooo!

There are many manufacturers that make XM receivers besides Delphi -- Pioneer, Audiovox, Smasung, Polk Audio, to name a few. Delphi was just the first manufacturer to offer them.

Also, Delphi supplies automotive technology to just about everyone, not just GM. Chances are if it has two, three, or four wheels and an engine it has some OEM'ed Delphi components in it.

Just like OnStar, XM just happens to be a third-party option that GM Offers with their cars. Honda, Nissan, Lexus, Porsche, Scion, VW, Suzuki, Audi all offer XM radios as options. Heck, you can even get XM on your Harley-Davidson!

Next time do your homework -- and lighten up on GM. They treat their customers better than Chrysler does.

I own 4 GM vehicles and the engineering on most of them Sucks B***s, not to mention GM DOES treat their customers like crap, incase you haven't noticed!
Next time do your homework sonny.

FOR ME...XM Won.

It's like which is better...
Ford or Chevy???
XBOX or Playstation???
Each has something different to offer...and we each have our own tastes!!!

BOTH ARE GREAT!!!
I have the Roady II in my XF and have two base units for the Roady, one in my studio and one in my woodshop. I've never tuned in Sirius, but agree with REDCROSS ... "Each has something different to offer ... " I got the Roady because of the versatility ... I also have an accessory to make the Roady into a Walkman ... So when I cut the grass I can hear XM there too. One unit, three locations to listen to. That's what got my attention ... I've only got one location here in town that drops out and it's not under a viaduct it's AFTER I come out of it ... in the open ... go figure.

And for those interested, I have a friend that does custom installs in Arizona that is going to come up with a way to connect my Roady via AUX IN to my stock radio, not use the FM modulator. When he and I get something worked up I will post more info.

I have both, XM baseball Sirus NFL. Other than Howard on Sirus I feel the biggest difference is Sirus is racier with more channels using words you would not want your kids to hear.
That's what I notice.
