Default Automatic door/gate opener

I have just bought a roadster and expected it to have the gate / garage opener as I have seen on the coupes - do the roadsters not come with this option? It is in the book as being there and before I talk to the dealer would appreciate any information.

The limited roadster does come with it. It is above the mirror.

Brian - Look in my gallery. I just added a photo - although a poor picture, you should see what it looks like. It's the three buttons. You will love the automobile.

Thanks for the replies folks, but the opener buttons don't exist; can this option be retrofitted? Any one
know?

Yep, just checked and did a comparison on the standard features between the basic and Limited roadster. It's not included on the basic model. You might want to check with your dealer and see if they offer it as a dealer installed option.

Hi Brian,
Did you manage to get this installed, I had the same problem and spoke to the Dealer who did not want to know when the deal was done.

I considered getting the unit from the US and installed locally, just wondering if you managed to get it.

G'day damo

No, failed miserably onthat one. My local dealer - Chellingworth in WA - claim they did a search on availability of a retro fit, they don't come standard on the rag top apparently and came up with a zero. so I have an opener for the gate to get in the property and another for the garage which is a nuisance. If you can get any further info i would appreciate a heads up on it. Are you in the West perchance? If so I'll give you my number and we should get together to compare notes. I love the car, very exciting to drive, done about 20k now so well settled in.

good luck on the hunt,

regards

Hi Brian

fix for your problem - get both gate and garage door opener to operate from one "key ring " size opener - then velcro opener to the left inside edge of the ash tray ( assuming you dont use it for ash)
mine works very well and you dont spoil the look of the spartan interior.

I use the key fob routine myself but I velcroed the key fob in the driver storage area between the door and seat so it couldn't be seen but I can grab it easily when I go out on my motorcycle or the car.

The garage door opener is made by HomeLink and you might be able to get one from them.

Hi guys/gals;

Just got a limited '08 roadster and no homelink either (only feature missing). It was a left over. I'm curious. Is this an optional feature?

To resolve the opener problem I velcrode (is that a word) the two opener keys which are both quite small and neat to the spot on the car where the inbuilt unit would have been, and they are almost unnoticeable whilst being right where you need them. Certainly not in line of sight so a very satisfactory solution. A suggestion that came from a poster on this forum a while ago.

Much better solution than velcroed it under the steering wheel. I also liked how well goes a small opener in the sunvisor with it's clip.

When i purchased my roadster, i was keen to utilise the garage door/gate facility only to be told that the system is not available in Australia so the buttons are just there for show. If i have been misinformed can someone please tell me.

Cheers

G'day rainefab; I resolved my issue with the auto gate and door openers by velcroing two separate units in the spot where on the rag top the buttons would have been had they been factory fitted. This works perfectly, they are convenient, out of line of sight and where they would have been in any case. If the roadster has already got buttons that don't operate this may prove to be difficult but worth a look. My wife has a SAAB with her two openers one either side of the steering wheel - which I don't like but it suits her - who is to argue?? Good luck, if you are in Perth email me and we could catch up.

Hi Brian, thanks for the info. Not really liking the idea of Velcroing the openers but i see why you have done it.Its annoying that when you buy a car from a dealer and he tells you that this facility is great only to find that it doesn't work at all really bugs me.The facility works in all Mercedes sold in Australia.
I'm in Sydney and have friends living in Perth, might be an interesting drive.

I can confirm that on the Coupes in Australia the auto door opener is fitted and works

I did look at a SRT-6 Roadster yesterday and couldn't see the opener buttons on it - so maybe the opener isn't fitted on the roadsters

Just follow the instructions in the owners handbook - they're quite specific and easy to follow.
Let me know if you don't have access to the handbook
BTW - what part of Australia are you in? - if it's Sydney want to join one of our group cruises sometime?
