So I bought the car fax and the car was involved in a front and rear end collision with airbag deployment about two years ago...



What are your thoughts about buying a car that was involved in an accident? I was going to offer him 7,000 for it.

 

As long as you are able to inspect and drive it and it checks out fine, I think 7k would be fine.

 

I'd never buy a car without seeing it first. So I sent the guy a message saying whether the car was still available as to what he answered yes - I wanted to go and check it out for a friend or any member here on the forum. Then when I told him I live in St. Pete, Florida and wanted to know where he lived to inspect the car and take it for a test drive, I never heard back (that was 3 days ago). Seems fishy to me if someone is trying to sell a vehicle but doesn't want closer inspections/test drives!
Maybe others have better luck.
If you get him to communicate with you and he is not too far away I have no problems going there for you to check out the vehicle.

 

Hey thanks for trying to get in touch with them. I sent her a text today asking about the same scenario and never got a reply. She said the only reason they are selling the car is because she is pregnant. I asked to hold the car until I could get there this Saturday and she never asked for a deposit or anything so I didn't feel like it was a scam.. It really looks like it is though if they won't accept a local buyer haha.

 

It is about 4 hours south of me so hard to take a look. I'd suggest examining very carefully for upper body rust particulaly on door, hood, and trunk hinge points and all window frames. I usually can make a good guess at salt air exposure by looking at the surface of the alternator.


I'd suggext examining closely and ask for receipts about the accident. With a smart phone, dongle, and Torque Pro app you can check for any stored codes.


Beyond that, with the VIN (1C3AN79N75X049356 ?) any Chrysler dealer can pull up the service history.


True, I have bought cars just on a gut feel and little examination but am odd^H^H^H eccentric.

Well I got a reply this morning... She said she is free Saturday and Sunday of this week if anyone wants to come take a look. If I get an address would any of you be willing to stop in and maybe take it for a test drive? Snap a few pictures of anything that may be a concern?

Also, I forgot to mention that when I initially tried to contact this seller VIA email they did not reply to me, I had to contact them via text to get an answer.

I just realized it's in Miami....It's about 4 hours away from me (St. Petersburg to Miami). I will be traveling to Miami on Sept. 9th but I would assume that is too late for you!
I would definitely contact the dealership in Hollywood that did the inspection after the accident and also call the recent service dealerships to get more information on the condition of the car!

 

The thing is, that was two years ago, what exactly should I expect them to tell me? She said they are located in the North Broward area.

If the car is still available on the 9th and you didn't mind taking a look at it, that would be awesome. That or if someone else is available that would work too.

 

Absolutely no problem for me to take a look when I go down there on the 9th! I will be very close to Broward county. I can take pictures, hook up my scanner to inquire about stored codes and other problems as well as take it for a test drive!

The price sounds real good for an SRT6 but it needs to be determined if the car is in as good of shape as they claim. I would assume the car won't be for sale very long if it is!

 

You could find out what exactly the damage was, how severe the damage was and what was done to correct the damage to the vehicle as well as find out whether the frame has been affected i.e. moved or stretched.
I would also call the latest stated service station (Chrysler dealership) to date in order to find out if there was any problems with the car at the inspection!
