Default Extending the Warranty

I got a post card from Chrysler yesterday telling me that my warranty is going to expire on June 11th. It offered a renewal for an unspecified period at an unspecified price (obviously to get me to call the 800 number). I'm actually kind of temped to extend my warranty and I'm wondering: Has anyone here done it? Were you glad you did? Were you sad you didn't?

I haven't gotten the card (I only have 12K miles on it) - but if I do get a card when the 3 years are up - depending on the price, I'd buy it in a heart-beat! If it is offered by DC and costs about the same as most dealers sell their third-party extended warranties - it is usually a great deal for that peace of mind.

I used to think extended warranties were like rustproofing or pinstripes - overpriced and unnecessary - but I bought one for a used 96 neon that saved me thousands of dollars in repairs. Since these motors are MB and never cheap to work on, it is probably a great opportunity, if it truly is an extended warranty. What I mean by that is - it should cover everything the original warranty covered.

About how much extra per month does it cost? (Or is it by miles?)

You can go through your local chrysler dealer and save quite a bit.

I got the same mailing, even though I have the 7 year 70,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty! I figured I'll be paying for the car for a long time, it should be covered for a long time too.

The nice part is that everytime I go in for any work at all on the car they have to get me a rental or a loaner, no matter which dealer I go to. It's worked out well so far.

Another option would be to buy a third party warranty, which I did for my SRT6 that extended the 3yr/36K miles to 5yrs/100K miles bumper to bumper warranty.

I'm still way below the 36K miles so I haven't made a claim against the extended warranty. But when I do and the company does honor its claim that I can take it to any shop, then guess where I'm taking the car..

... an MB dealership.
