Thumbs up Middle East Illegal Street Racing

In today's Wall Street Journal (May 3rd) there is a front page article titled "In the Middle East, Illegal Street Racing Is a Rich Kid's Sport". And what got my attention was the first paragraph- DUBIA, United Arab Emirates- "After bidding his friends goodbye at a Starbucks cafe late one recent weekday night, Ahmed Khawaga steered his metallic-blue Chrysler Crossfire sports car into the desert. He stopped on the shoulder of a desolate stretch of road, turned on his headlights and revved the $40,000 car's engine to a roar - Here I come! He shouted into the empty expanse". The article goes on to say he was joined by friends and they would race down the road at night side by side at speeds approaching 150 mph in their Lamborghinis and Porsches. These are all guys under 25 years old, but they are flush with cash because their economy is booming. They spend thousands of dirhams on their cars for racing upgrades. But I thought it was interesting that Mr Khawaga said his brand-new Crossfire needs no enhancement. I would like to know exactly what model he has. But he must feel its competitive in his crowd. Hope this little story makes some of you guys feel better about your Crossfires.

The racing is common, not only in the regular roads but in about in every road.
here in Kuwait the 2 main highways (30 and 40) are just like a Rally. From Testarossa to VW's and the single Crossfire I have seen here.

About all accidents are fatal, when they crash they mean it. The Paramedics don't respond the way they do in Europe or the US, so the chances of not making is good.

It illegal, but in most instances the Police look the other way.
