EBC Rotors and Rotex Pads HELP!!! hddp???
Ok so here's my problem, i bought EBC Dimpled and Slotted Rotors for the SLK320 with some rotex brake pads. Well the front rotors that had been shipped to me were for the SLK230 i presume because they were 11.3 inches in diameter not 11.8 like i needed, so i sent them back and i'm waiting on the larger front rotors, point being im not having issues with my front rotors so i can't tell if its the rotors characteristics or a mis-installation on my part...so here is my problem, the rear rotors TICK and its driving me insane, the ticking gets muffled and faster while braking and the ticking speeds up if the car speeds up, so its defiantly something to do with the rotors...i've had the rear wheels off many-a-times and i was just hoping and praying that this is a fixable issue without me having to get rid of the rotors...if anyone can help i'd be very appreciative!!! especially hddp!!!
thank you for any help
thank you for any help
If your wheels are held on with bolts like they are on the SLK's, check the ends of the bolts for damage. If the bolts are too long due to a thinner "hat" on the disc, your bolts could be contacting the parking brake parts inside. The bolts are VERY length critical. I would also look at the flathead screw that holds the disc in place before you bolt on the wheel.
If the bolts show any damage, check the parking brake components inside as well.
Of course if you fellows are using studs and lug nuts, forget the above...

Bruce R has a good point. if the thickness (hat) of the new rotor is thinner than the OEM, your lug bolts could be catching (rubbing, ticking) the parking brake inside the hub. I had this problem when I installed my new wheels and had to grind the lugs down a few mm.
best way to check for this is raise the back end of the car and manually turn the wheels, you'll feel and hear the "click". Check both sides individually and note the tire position (if) when you hear the click. If you hear the "click" or feel the wheel "catching" when you're doing this, it's not brakes.
If you hear it while doing this, loosen all your lug bolts one full turn + and then turn the wheels again. if it's the lugs clipping the inside of the parking brake, the noise should stop now. If it does stop, pull all your lug bolts and grind the ends of them down a little bit, making sure not to leave any burrs or rough edges or crushing the end of the thread.
On the other hand, you mentioned that the rotors were slotted and I think you said you installed new pads. Could be that the edge of the new pad is catching the slot and making the noise. If this is the case they'll wear themselves down is a few days.
Other thing could be the rotors you got are warped. pull the tires and spin the rotors while looking along the edge from back to front. You should be able to see a slight wobble if they're warped. If they were cheap aftermarket rotors, this could be the case.
Hope this helps, keep us informed...
