Default Your Engine Cover...

Curious to see what others have done to their engine covers. I taped out the bullet and shot the rest with a 'hammered' finish from Rustoleum. As it was drying I scraped the Crossfire letters with the edge of an x-acto knife so they stand out nice on the dark finish. My issue is with the Chrysler emblem on the tip of the engine cover, its looks kinda cheesy and I'm curious as to what others have done.

Pat

It looks great, but I am going to try and keep it as stock as possible.

Personally, I'm gonna replace mine with an SLK320 cover as soon as finances permit. Everything else under the hood has a three-pointed star or "Mercedes-Benz" printed on it for cryin' out loud, why couldn't they use the stock MB engine cover? They could have done that and then used the cash they saved to do something really cool like train the Chrysler service techs properly!

Cool Re: Your Engine Cover...

I am also in the process of painting my engine cover, I just picked up one in good condition on Ebay. It will be black and chrome, and have a 3.5" diameter MB Star mounted on it.

Rob,

Post pic's and part #'s (the Star) when your done. I was thinking of going the SLK 320 route myself but some of these painted XF covers look real nice.

A work in progress, I still have to paint in the Chrysler wing logo, a little touch up and apply a clear coat and decide which MB Star to use.

Hey Rob, IMO go with the smaller Star. How ya gonna get it to lie flat? Is it bendable at all?

I have to do a little contouring with the old Dremel tool, just have to put a slight curve on the emblem.

Good Idea. If its plastic how about heating it with a blow dryer and letting it contour to the surface? That's what I've done on all the dash overlays I've installed and it works beautifully.

THAT LOOKS GREAT! The M-B Star is an excellent idea and that's the perfect location for it. Guess what my next project will be.
