Trade in value.
And that right there should be a red flag. That is the dealer game.
Anyway, that's good money. If you want to do it, do it before the winter.
I really would like to keep this car. I think in 10 or 15 years it will be something really special.
Thanks for the info on the dealer. I may give them a call.

What you are really getting is the difference between what you could buy the car for with no trade in and what they will sell to you with your XF as trade. NOBODY sells new cars at sticker. If you are buying an '06 the discount is even more. 20% off sticker on '06 is not sticker is not difficult, so they are really offering about 13K for your car.

Instead try asking them to provide a written offer to buy your Crossfire outright, i.e., without you buying a car from them. You will not be offered $20K. Likely reasons they are able to offer you $20-21K in trade are that they want to move inventory and are making up the difference with their profit margin on the sale of the new vehicle and possibly on finance and other charges as well. Translation - they are giving you a "generous" trade value while you pay too much for the new vehicle.
